What did you sharpen today?

It's been one of those funny days in the shop. Firstly, the butcher brought in his needles to sharpen. Secondly. I got to sharpen a mattock (a pick) then the local wood craftee brought in his thicknesser blades. Not one knife amongst the lot.

well, yesterday i sharpened my CRKT M16, and then my 1660ST Leek. then i went to bed. i tend to be a pretty exciting guy! :D

My stuff has been mundane, also. I sharpen a lot of my buddies deer hunting knives. Pretty routine stuff.

Today it was a Buck folder. Looked like a simple V-grind blade, about 3.5 inches, and the grip was rubbery. I don't know what specific model. (I went to the Buck site and found out that the model is their 'Protege.') The burr was easy, and I just polished it off with the 660 grit and stropped it.

My wife had found my Buck mini-Alpha and whacked open several huge case-size boxes from Shaklee. I don't care, it was ATS-34, and heat treated by Paul Bos. However, she's a bit of a hacker.

There was rouge left on the strop, and the edge came back with about a dozen licks.

I ran my EDC Al Mar SERE 2000 across my white Sharpmaker sticks a few times to give it a sticky edge a few minutes ago...Dang, that VG-10 steel sure takes a nice edge!.:).

JDEEBLADE,
What are butcher needles?

Oh, and to stay on topic, I sharpened an old meat cleaver ("Pat. May 25, 1886") that I used to split kindling.

Thanks,

It wasn't today, but my most recent oddity was my brush hook. This is like a very broad-headed axe or bill hook. The blade is about 10 inches top-to-bottom, 2/3 of it is straight then it curves back to a point. It is sharpended on both sides except where in connects to the handle. I mostly use my belt sander on it.

Butchers needles are those broadheaded needles butchers use when making a rolled roast or similar. about 8-10" long up to 1/4" thick with a large eye to take string. The point is flattned and a bit like a curved spear. You sharpen them the same way you would a spearhead.

I know that's a bit convuluted but do you get the picture.

I sharpened my Case wharncliffe trapper on my Sharpmaker. Although it doesn't take as good as edge as say a SERE 2K ;) it does take a nice toothy edge.

See'in as how it's Thanksgiving, last night I touched-up the long carving knive on the Sharpmaker. Then, I had to use the Lanskey Coarse Diamond hone on the 6" Stiff Boner (Chicago Cutlery), finishing it on the Sharpmaker, which will also be used on the turkey . Then I touched up the two Victorinox paring knives along with a cheap Japanese paring knife, also on the Sharpmaker.

I sharpened and cleaned my sons Vaqureo Grande folder by Cold Steel. he used it Saturday to cut some Hosta and Daylilly stalks down in preperation for winter. Went out this morning and there it lay on a little metal table where it had been since Saturday. Had a little rust on the blade, really just spots and Mothers Aluminum & Mag Polish made short work of that while my Spyderco sharpener made short work of the edge!

Also sharpened my Cuda Maxx, and the Case Sowbelly I carry.

Now I've eaten so much turkey and dressing and all the other fixin's that i am in total misery:barf: :barf: But hey, ain't that what is all about??? :D :)

today I dismantled and sharpened my scissors at work... and touched up the edge on my spydie military(last used it about 2 months ago).

Well, I ended up cutting up some carpet for my Mom while I was at home so I just put a convex edge on her. She's shaving now!

Sharpened my Anza Boddington on my old Sharpmaker. That file knife takes some edge. Hairs just fly off my arm. I just don't know how well this little fixed blad will cut being that it is so thick. I have to try it out on some limbs around the house that need cutting down.

I only just finished sharpening a " J.Nowill and Sons" rabbit knife i got in the mail from Keith Spencer. Did it on 20d slot of my lansky kit and it is scary sharp.
Am taking it camping this weekend and will probaly sit there all night drinking beer and sharpening all my mates knives.

This morning I sharpened my Victorinox Soldier on my Sharpmaker. I usually just use the flats of the dark stones and it gets a great working edge within 8 strokes.

I got my Edge Pro sharpening system about a week ago. That four letter word 'work' kept me from setting up before today. This morning I sharpened my Blade-Tech/Tarani Karambit... and then decided to dress up the Henckels kitchen knife. Both turned out REALLY sharp. As I was carving the Turkey tonight I found that the Hencles just glided through the meat effortlessly. The hawk billed Karambit didn't cut bad either. I was having sooo much fun, I kept cutting the pieces smaller and smaller.. until my wife asked me why I was using that "funny looking knife" on her Turkey. Kudos to Edge Pro & I suppose I'd better thank the other half for the great dinner, just in case she reads this post! :D

Spent two hours or so with the Sharpmaker and my new Extrema Ratio MPC and my EDC Buck-Strider 882 Tarani SB4.T this afternoon.

The MPC is really scary sharp now, but I'm frankly surprised at how difficult the 882 was to get o the same point, despite what I consider to be relatively "easy" ATS-34 -- must be the heat-treat on the latter.....

Is she your pocketknife? Otherwise, you've scared me silly. ;)

Just put my best edge ever on a Spyderco ATR. To quote Homer J. Simpson:
