What do I do with my Mnandi?

I bought this knife early this summer. I love it --to look at. It is too nice. I cannot bring myself to use it to cut something with it. I find it sits in it's leather case and stares at me from the top of the dresser. I don't think I am crazy. I own and shoot a variety of higher end pistols and revolvers but that damn nice knife bothers me. To those of you that own this wonderful knife what do you do with it?

Stick it in a shirt pocket off-duty or in the office and cut things with it. It has a blade the same length as a Spydie Native which is a good convenient length for EDC. Unless you drop it in mud and step on it, it won't show much use, either, given its high-end materials. And very few people will flinch when you pull it out. Unless you stick it in them.

I think it's a great knife to have on you at all times. It doesn't alarm people if you use it in public.

I work in an office environment and it's my EDC during the week. I cut packages, envelopes, zip ties etc... Once you get the first scratch you'll feel much better. You can always send it in for a spa treatment!

I use my ebony Mnandi and find it to be a strong rival for the small Sebenza. It's smaller of course but does its job very nicely indeed. I say just grit your teeth, pull your socks up and cut something. :p:thumbup:

I have had several mnandi ( 5+ ) and consider them one of my favorite CRK designs. First I will say, there is NOTHING I dislike about it. I think its perfect in every way. I also have EDC'ed them off and on and consider them super tough for their smaller size. I have used my Basketweave Stainless Steel Devin Thomas/Cocobolo mnandi more than any of the others, for some pretty heavy duty things and there is not even the slightest blemish. I have cut lots of heavy cardboard with it, cut dog bones with it, food prep, whittle, etc. and like I said, no blemish in either the damascus blade or the handle. I have had several different woods Including Bocote, Camel Thorne, Cocobolo, Jigged Madagascar Rosewood, just to name the ones I can think of and all were perfect in every way. I sold a few off and only have the damascus/cocoolo and S30V/jigged madagascar rosewood left and I am keeping them. I miss my camel thorn as it was absolutely beautiful. I mostly always carried mine in the leather slip pouch by the way to help protect it.
My advise, use it and enjoy it. You will have a friend to the end with the mnandi.

Put it in your pocket and use it. I traded my Mnandi for a custom folder, only because it was too small for me. I wish I would've kept it. Set it aside for nice functions if you don't want to carry it everyday. I find that it is easier for me to carry my Case Bose collaborations if I designate them as dress knives.

I do think you're crazy for thinking it's "too nice to use". I think it's too nice not to use. To not use a knife is to waste it :)

call me sick, but I'd carry it everyday in the pouch in my pocket just to stare at it.

As many said, Mnandi is a great EDC for office and many other occasions where even small Sebenza would stand out too much. Even NKP around me shows interest in my Mnandi when I use it in front of them. It can easily be carried as if you were carrying a pen in your pocket. I sharpen my Mnandi way more than my other CRKs because it gets more use than others in EDC.

I hope you'll give your Mnandi a try in actual use. It sure is beautiful, but there is nothing more beautiful than a well used blade with scuffs all over it. ;)

Buy another exact same one then use one and keep one as this is not the limited edition of Mnandi.
That is what I will do if I love to keep one with flawless condition and also want to use it and be pround when pulling it off the pocket. But I will never use the limited ones.

I have a similar one with bocote inlay.
It went in my pocket and I started with cutting an apple.
Now that feeling is cool. Afterwards I'm not afraid to rinse it with fresh water and then dry it.
I tell you what the knife gets more beautiful each day.

Use it.

Carry it, but don't cut up stuff just to cut stuff like some people do. If you need to cut up an apple, do it. If you want to annihilate a cardboard box, get a utility Knife!
