Guaranteed that will not happen, we've seen it all and we don't fall for those tricks. We know all the old school makers.

Although my first inclination would be to toss it in the trash, I've seen several people online who have searched for cheap/crappy knives to either replace one they lost and had a sentimental attachment to, or they were looking for a parts knife to repair one that they have a sentimental attachment to.

If it's a knife in plentiful supply I'd likely toss it, as I gravitate towards material minimalism. But if it's a hard to find knife, if it's one I couldn't find another of, I'd just put it away in a box somewhere. And who knows, maybe someday it will be exactly what someone is looking for and I could really make their day by giving it to them.

Fortunately for me I don't come into possession of a lot of cheap, crappy knives .
