What do I have (blade ID help request)?

To the best of my recollection, I purchased this knife sometime within the last 3-5 years, and unfortunately I don't remember anything about it. I've been out of work for a while and now I need to think about selling it, but I'm not sure what it is or how much to ask for it.

If anyone can help me identify it and (assuming it's OK to do so here) help suggest an estimated value/asking price, I'd greatly appreciate it. I recall taking a few half-hearted swings at a piece of firewood in the backyard and some minimal effort at sharpening it (and/or the small blade...both of which are still relatively dull), but aside from that it's sat unused in my office since I bought it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

What is the over all length of this piece, from Buttcap to tip of blade?
Need a size to help determine an approximate worth.

If it is the usual 16 inch model it may be worth between $60 and $100, depending on it's condition and whether it was a DOTD or Retail. They were $145 new on the retail site. You also have to factor in that there is no warrantee on this to the new owner.

Thanks for the model ID info! The length is ~18" to 18.5" from tip to butt cap, depending on which part of the butt cap I measure to. I can say with some certainty that I bought it through BladeForums and not off the retail site, but I just don't remember any other details than that unfortunately.

Condition is pretty much as I received it (it's got flaws...I assume that's the nature of this sort of handmade piece but I've never handled another one for comparison) aside from the things I mentioned above which I don't think affected it much.

I'm a little late asking this since I am probably going to sell this one, but what is the purpose of the second small 'knife' that does not have any bevels or sharpened edge? It's like a small bar of steel with a handle on it.

Thanks much!

18 incher.....
Sells for $165 retail... I'd say on the high end it would be approximately $130 give or take.
This is by guesstimation of past sales....someone may correct me if i'm wayy off base.

What's the purpose of the little semicircular cutout on the bottom near the handle, and what's the purpose of the little tonsil hanging in it?

That's called the Cho or Kaura. The purpose and meaning are lost in history but it's not a true khukuri without one.

My favorite explanation is it is a stylized cow hoofprint.

Yeah but it is a 'real chopper' not just a 'brush cutter'.:(

Gawd damn strange to see and read your own post after the passage of many months. :(

What was written in light and response to the context of that which was happening on the forum at the time of when it was posted now causes even its writer to wonder what the heck was the information it was meant to convey?

The point I was intending make put simply and plainly: that the WWII model is capable of heavy duty chopping!

Lessons have been learned and hopefully wont be repeated. :o

And now I must find myself the right WWII, or it find me, as Uncle Bill would have said.

From what I read, its like a blood grove.

Any blood or other fluids on the knife blade hits this area and drips from the tonsil part instead of sliding down to your handle/hand.

There is no such thing as a blood grove. There are fullers which aid in making a blade lighter while at the same time provideing as much strengh as possible to it (think I-beam).

As for the cho allowing water / blood to drip off of it, there are many examples of older kukris also having closed chos so this doesn't really fit. It is still debated though as to the chos real intension, however it is most thought of as a religious symbol.

It looks a little bit dark for neem, but either that or bajiyisal (sp?) would be my guess.
