What do I have here? An old Busse?

Picked this little knife up at a local knife show today. Small knife, about 5.5" overall, but thick stock. At least 3/16", maybe 1/4" thick, with smooth coat finish. Little Busse.jpg

You're sure it's a Busse?

It looks familiar. A coworker of mine picked up a Busse apprentice knife years ago. It looked more like an ESEE Izula, with the empty handle and a drop point. Other than that, it was a single piece of steel coated in some smooth black paint just like that. I don't think they're around much anymore.

No markings on this, as far as I can see. Definitely has the same type of grinds/plunges as many old Busses I've seen before. Top/spine is rounded, except for the point back to the corner.

That knife looks familiar but I do not think it is a Busse, however I do make a habit of being wrong pretty often. I have an old Busse apprentice knife and it looks nothing like that.

Doesn't look like any model that I've ever seen. That said, the grinds, thickness and the coating are all very similar to old, smooth coat Busses.

This is a really hard one to search for without knowing the exact phrase or exact ganza date. There was a model that your probably thinking of that was a really really thick for how small it was, it had no handle scales and was very plain looking. It sold during a ganza. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do a search for it. It has similarities to the knife you've posted, but there's nothing that indicates to me that the knife posted here is busse without some kind of history to it, identifying marks, or word from jerry.

seriously, it's killin me that I can't find it. I remember it being really thick, like 5/16" and about the size of a bear cub, but without scales or holes in the tang. It was just an open metal tang.

If only there were a consistent number of A's each time Jerry writes, "ganzaaAAAaaAaaAAaaAAAaaa," it would be much simpler to search for.

I have one of these, and I like it a lot, however it is not a Busse, on this I am sure. It is a caping knife I believe from the 80's. I got mine off ebay and occasionally see them there. They were from a known company, but I can't recall there name. LiuKang put one up as possibly an apprentice knife. I sent him a PM and told him the brand but now I can't remember the name. It has the massive feel of a Busse ,but it's not. Sorry to be the bearer of possibly bad news, but "we perish from the lack of knowledge" enjoy the little knife I do............ P.S. after thinking about it I am almost positive it is a Blackjack Lil' Caper from Effingham, Ill.

Newt Livesay knife maybe? I looks like one of the models he had in his print ads in the knife magazines years ago.

I had one very similar to that. I was told it was a Busse apprentice knife, but there were no markings on it for me to be sure.

Look @ Worthpoint online for Blackjack caper skinner obscure. I looked it up and they are shown there.

Interesting. If it came from two different sources both claiming it as a busse apprentice, then maybe they are.

I was thinking of the proto mean street, thanks to Randucci for jogging my memory.
