What do I have here? Jerry?

The top knife in the picture arrived today. It was advertised as mint, unused, bead-blast finish.

The edge is in perfect condition and certainly seems unused. There is a very uniform, narrow strop-polished area above the edge that also could be factory.

The metal finish has fine, vertical buff lines the entire length of the knife.

The slabs are unlike any I have seen on a SH 1. I have included another SH 1
for comparison. They look like the slabs in pictures I have seen of a Holy Tearer. The rivet heads seem to be totally undisturbed.

Any ideas or info?

I would be interested in Jerry's take on that one myself. Very nice Mike. If that is factory, you have a unique piece.

Better send it to me for a closer look............ :D

That's one Holy Crap if I ever did see one!!!

Dearned skippy on the HT scales. What's the scoop Jerry?

Congrats Mike, that's an odd one:cool:

i'm sure i could tell you exactly what it is if it was over here...
very nice whatever it is.
?proto?
factory recondition + some custom stuff?
jerry!

It's a clone...if you want, I'll give you $50 + shipping for it. I need a BOB knife. :D

Nice score though

It looks like someone has customised it to me, you can see wear lines at the back, past the micarta, where it looks like someone has removed part of the slab.

As far as I can see, the actual metal bits are exactly the same, so it seems likely to me that it was just a custom handle job by some guy :)

Jerry: Yes, it is sterile.

 We did 10 prototypes for a Special Unit in 1993. They featured a modified knuckle guard that would act as a wire cutter. We had to move the handle material away from the rear scallop between the skull crusher and rear talon in order to allow for this device to work.

Imagine a knuckle guard that, when the front screw was removed, it would pivot on the rear screw and cut the wire strand in the recessed area described above.

Killer find!!!!

Congrats!!!

Well, I was wrong... :D

Jerry: One more question, please. Would the prototypes have been more roughly finished, as this knife is? As I mentioned, it has vertical buffing lines
for the full length of the metal. It is not an unpleasing finish, just more rough than any finishes I have seen. The seller described it as mint and bead blasted, but I would describe it as more of a satin finish without the buffing lines being polished out. The lines can be seen in the picture on close inspection.

It came with an Eagle nylon/kydex sheath with the cord-wrap snap retainer.
he sheath shows no signs of use, but it does appear that the liner might have been removed and reinserted.

If it is indeed one of those protypes, my life is ruined, as I will have to search from now on for the wire-cutter attachment.

Jerry: One more question, please. Would that Special Unit have been headquartered somewhere in South Carolina?

Fear not Mike, if the pressure of finding the cutter is too much for you, I will take the blade off of your hands. Then you will not have the added pressure in your life. What can I say, I am a giver.

Pro, I am truly touched by your generous offer, but I wouldn't want to trouble you with this. I'll just have to suffer through. :D

Mike,

Judging from the shine on the handles, it looks as though someone outside of our shop did some buffing on both the blade and the handles. That would bring out any grind marks. They would most likely vanish with a new blast on both the blade and the handle.

As for the location of the unit. . . . hmmmmm. . . . I really can't say. . . . I mean I know, I just REALLY CAN'T say.
