Hello, everyone. I recently inherited\found what I believe to be an older splitting maul. I have no clue who made it. There is a three letter makers mark on it. Could anyone enlighten me on anything. Additionally does anyone know or offer a re-sharpening & re-handling services. The edge is in pretty rough shape. Sorry if the pics do not work out, this is my first time posting. The makers mark has three letters JSM or JSH in a circle with an 8 below the letters?

The 8 is undoubtedly the weight. There should be info available for it since it's new enough to carry the 'safety glasses' warning.

I suddenly feel old whenever I see "wear safety goggles" stamped on supposedly collectible tools since this more or less indicates post-1977 manufacture. Which (to me) is modern-recent and coincides with most of the reputable classic domestic axe and tool makers already having closed up shop and folded their tents.

Put a nice aftermarket sledge hammer handle on this mostly un-used baby and 'go to town' with it. As a collector (or for scrap metal price) it has very little value but for busting up firewood you'll readily get your money's worth, and then some. This is a splitter so fancy profiling and mirror-shine sharpening is not necessary, at all.
