I bought this knife many years ago, and would like to find out what I have. BENCHMADE butterfly with USA under it on one side of blade. ATS-34, MEL PARDUE DESIGN, U.S. Patent No. 5737841, PRE-PRODUCTION 243/1000 on the other side of blade. Black handle, I believe it's an axis lock. I will attempt to attach pics
Don't see how to add pics, knife is just over 7 1/2" overall, 4 3/8" closed, bright tanto partially serrated blade.
Sorry, I don't seem to be able to attach pics
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. The patent number provided is most likely for the Axis mechanism (the lock) as the same number exists on numerous models from the same time period. (Edited since the OP states it's got a Tanto blade.)

On my old school ATS-34 710 the same patent number is clearly on the blade. New models have the later RE. patent. But without pics it could be anything as 'Jeepin' above says.

It's definately not a 710 though. His knife has a tanto blade.:)

Ahh Kimosabe, you're right. I focused on the lock and not the blade described. Thanks for the catch!

Yeah that's what I think it is. They made them with g10 and aluminum handles.

I would love if they brought them back in M390 or something similar:cool:

That's one of the best EDC Benchmades ever, IMAO. If they were still made, that's what I'd be carrying. ATS34 was BM's pre-prod steel until sometime around 2000-2002, IIRC. Then they switched to 154CM. I was thinking 72x when I read the OP. Used to have one. It was as comfortable for me to hold and use as a Para 2, and a better pocket carry.

Maybe we gave him the info he needed, although sometimes when asked "What do I have" = What's it worth?
