I have been thinking of building a hydraulic press for a while, but still don't know exactly how to go about it. I didn't want to steel the last thread that Talked about presses so I made my own.

I was talking to my father about building a press and he said he had an old frame he build for a press many years ago. HE said he used to use a 30ton jack to operate it. I was wondering what I would need to buy to make this into a functional hydraulic press, and where I could get it. Any suggestions are encouraged.

The frame is 6ft tall x 40in wide. The verticals are 4in channel iron and the horizontals are 6in channel iron. The pins are 3/4in steel pins.

Here are some pictures:

How many tons do you think It could take.

Thanks,

Me personaly I think I would break it down and use it to save some money on steel cost. I would be afraid that it would be a little flimsy and the uprite suports are to far apart. But then I've yet to build one some maybe some one that isn't geussing could help you out.

I would reinforce it by welding everything together and weld in I beams in the High stress points. Also not go over 20 to 24 tons. Good luck.
PS: If you hear strange noises coming from it went in use run. HEHEHEHE!!!!
