What do I need to run this Kool Mist?

could I run Several of these off one compressor? I wouldn't need a very big compressor right?

Get a big compressor. Mine runs the whole time I'm using a kool mist. I actually stopped using it because It's annoying. At least until I get a better compressor.

I run this system and find that it takes very little air to operate. My compressor is a large 80 gallon unit so maybe a small compressor would put some demand on the system. The idea is to just keep the hardened area of the blade cool which takes very little mist. I run the nozzle almost closed.

I switched to wet grinding love it. All water, some belts like it better, some dont. I dont run a VFD. I depend alot on the mist works for me.

I already run wet but your system made me think I should upgrade a bit:) in the picture looks like your running a gator belt,if so do you have trouble with those and water? Do you just run plain water?

it is really nice! I cuts down on dust to.

I was looking around and seems like the people recommend anything from 40PSI-90PSI

I'm thinking either of these should work to run these(If you know of a really quiet compressor that would be great!)

I'm not sure how big, but my 6 gallon runs nonstop.
There are some people on this forum that have used an aquarium pump and probably have pretty good results.

Okay, When you said a big compressor my mind went to 5hp 80 gallon type thing:)

My current water system is run of a small tile saw water pump and is more of a "drip" system but I don't care for it to much(uses to much water and gets in the way) however I do like using coolant for my grinding.

That's probably the size compressor I'm going to get, but not just for the kool mist. In case i get a sandblasting cabinet.
A couple of good things about the kool mist are the dust is kept way down, and no blade dunking. The steel stays "kool"

Belt compressor will be the quietest.Micro-Mesh brand belts can be used wet. Grit ranges from 240-2000.Good luck,Lu

"The gator belt was put on for the picture. They can only be run dry; I don't even dip blades when grinding with these green belts.

'I was using the 3M micron belts but have just recently switched to cork. The cork is nice when used wet. It lies very flat and the belt gives you good feeback, easy to use. I got these from USA knifemakers supply.

I'm running an 80 gallon 5 HP air compressor. It will run the entire shop. If your going to run machinery that demands air buy as big as you can afford.

That's true and I'd like to get one like that sometime for power hammers and sandblasters but $1,000+ is to much for just a water set up right now

I run mine at 20 psi and it works great, Cuts down on mist in the shop. I am using a large confessor right now, but it worked fine off of a 3cfm pancake compressor.

Fred, if you think the trizacts work well dry you should try them wet... You can use so much more pressure which produces a very nice and fast finish. And everything stays very cool 😊

On a related note to wet grinding. I've been at Murray Carters shop for the last 5 days. He has 4 2x72 grinders. A Bader, 2 Burr kings and a newer Hardcore. The shop uses all of these grinders wet by hand dousing the belt or wheel in water. A bucket of water sits next to each Grinder and each user simply dumps a handful of water right into the belt.

The hitachi steel needs wet grinding so this how they do it. No concern or any problems of ruining the grinder. And they have ground thousands of blades. Just FYI :-)

It's not for everyone but this how carter cutlery does their wet grinding
