What do people usually use when field sharpening convex blades?

Maybe convex edges hold an edge well enough you don't need to bother sharpening in the field? I dunno... I don't have enough experience with this type of blade.

I find most blades of quality steel will last for about 3 days of use before a touch-up is needed. Having a convex edge does more for cutting performance than anything, the steel and your edge angle will decide the edge holding.

I carry a DMT diafolds C/F and use it to simply bring a edge back to sharp, I just need it to work again and when I get home I can give it proper TLC.

Hey,

I use one of either the
dmt diafold C/F
fallkniven DC4
spyderco doublestuff C/F

but I don't use convexed knives a lot and if so, I don't strop them in the field, I just put a v microbevel on it in the field ("V" it a bit to get it sharp again)

I generaly just use my Fallkniven DC4 hone to field sharpen mine. However if you want a strop setup go to kniveshipfree.com. They have some strop kits available which are meant for field use with convex edges. They work great. Plus Derrick and Wendy are great folks to deal with.

As others have said, I use steels that hold edges for much longer than I will be out (interpret that as either I am a wimp and never go out for long, or I use amazing steels....either way, both are true).

I have used some fine examples of 1095 that would not quite qualify for "amazing" but they were good in their own right (and easy to strop back to life)...so if I need to brighten up the edge a bit, I generally use my pants as a strop. If the edge was really bad off, I will get my pants a little dirty with some mud and strop...you would be surprised how well this works.
