I just got a Ploy Pearl Cadet (303T). It's the dandiest little knife. The three blades really stires up some exciting possibilities. I was curious as to what every one else use the clip, sheepfoot and spey blades for. Feel free to comment on the 420HC steel. Thanks

stockmans have to be my favorite pattern. i use the clip blade for my normal stuff, whittling, cutting wood, things like that. the spey gets used for really small percision cuts, little notches, sharpening pencils, things like that. the sheepsfoot, because it is plenty wide, gets abused with tough jobs. it scrapes wire if i dont have a better solution, cuts food, cus i dont worry about the blade, and its very straight, and anything else abusive. hope that helps

I´ve had a stockman as EDC since the 60´s, I´m very specific as to what I use each blade for, the clip is for slicing, as for bread and fruit, the spey I try to keep very sharp, for delicate jobs, the sheepfoot is the main utility, used for everything else.

My 303T is my favorite knife, and definately my "ONE" when it comes to EDC folders.

Unlike the others so far, I don't really have a set objective for each blade. I simply use one till it needs resharpening, and then I use another.

I do like the idea of having assigned tasks for each blade though, so I'll have to consider this.

As for 420HC, I love it. It's no S30V, but hey it sure sharpens quickly! This is not something any of the "wonder steels" can claim. Paul Bos's heat treat really gets the most out of it too.

kidwholaughs, Whatever the stockman may lack in Gee-whiz zip and flash
of some of the newer knives it more than makes up for in utility.(Especially
in the larger ,i.e. 4">4 1/4, sizes) Of all the 100 or more knives I own a
Buck 4 1/4 stockman is by far my favorite EDC simply because it's so darned
useful. :D :D

It's a great EDC for several reasons. It's relatively small so it's easy to carry in your pocket. It has 3 blades so more than likely you'll have a sharp one no matter how hard you use it and you have a variety of blades to choose from for your various cutting needs. It's very "sheeple" friendly, people generally see that type of knife and don't think twice about it.
