What do yall think of the Bexar slipjoint from tactile knife? It’s quite modern, but sans clip and stud, thank goodness. I like another *redacted* that I have in Magnacut steel and I do like it (although it’s not adamantium, mithryl or a lightsaber, it’s tough enough). Just wondering what some of yall think of it. Might should have asked before I bought one…. Well, I got a decent enough deal I won’t lose out if I hate it.

It's a looker. If you paid less than the list price, you got a good deal a knife with high end materials. It will also be something of an heirloom to pass on.

I'm a fan of using modern materials in classic designs, so the idea of the Bexar is kind of appealing to me. This is not always popular around here, but I'll own up to it: I love my Magnacut Buck 112 and carry it often, and my Benchmade Proper is my most-carried knife these days (it's almost always the Proper plus something else in my pocket).

But the 112 is a traditional knife, and the Proper feels like a traditional knife. The Bexar feels completely like a modern knife that just happens to be a slipjoint. So I don't really care for the handle shape, the parallel nail nicks look pretty bad to me, and I feel like it's overpriced. I haven't picked one up, and probably won't anytime soon. I was excited when I heard someone was making a production slipjoint in Magnacut, but this isn't quite the one for me.

This is what I expect to be true about several of the knives of this type I've noticed over the last couple years. I've pondered checking out a couple of these knives at different times and here's the thought that keeps me anchored. When I think about what I might be missing out on, I find I'm perfectly satisfied with a Vic Alox.

I see magnacut madness has even touched the porch 😱.

Personally I like some modern knives but vastly prefer the classic stuff, and I just don’t care for the pseudo traditional stuff much at all.

I sometimes carry and use a modern one hand locking folder as well as lust over some of them online, but even when I do I still have an old school pocket knife in my right front pocket.

The modern traditional style seems a compromise on everything to try to put a foot in both camps. You get the modern materials without the convenience of easy opening and clip, you get the two hand opening and pocket carry without the classic feel and aesthetic 🤷.

IMO, Victorinox nails the modern traditional style for me, stainless steel, synthetic handles, semi regularly updated models, function first, yet has a classic feel somehow.

I also don’t care for the price point of these modern traditional knives, most cost more than a GEC, and if I’m paying that much I would vastly prefer to just buy a GEC.

It’s all personal preference and I have never met a knife I didn’t like, I just don’t find myself drawn to the modern slip joints, I don’t need or value the higher end materials, and they just don’t visually strike my interest.

I want an utterly traditional knife with a variety of ultra-modern steel options so I can compare knives as equals. If it can be made with 1095 why not M390 or Magnacut… or maybe just some 12c27 or similar.

Why do we have to settle for mediocrity? Rise up, o Porchenberg-ites! Throw off the oppressive yoke of the proletariat… oh wait.

Ok realistically I think 1095 cuts just as well in the real world since it gets so sharp, is benefitted by “traditional” (thin and slicey) geometry, and if it gets dull it sharpens easily. I *am* mildly curious to try a bog standard traditional like a Case trapper or stockman in Magnacut just to see if it really adds an extra element of desirable edge-holding or toughness to a time-tested design. I have no desire whatsoever for metal framed knives or knives that have ugly “tactical” molded plastic jigging or strange blade shapes perceived to have more efficacy in stabbing people. (I have guns and fixed blade fighting knives if I need to defend myself and mine.)

I can’t stand all that jigging and molded plastic and such. I like quite simple usually, which is one thing that draws me to the Bexar. Even my moderns that I do have are quite simple. Mainly, a plain Jane sebenza (clueless of course).

As far as Magnacut madness, I like it well enough but I don’t find it magic. Of course I don’t push a knife or its steel to any limit, so I’m not a good person to judge. In this case, it just happens to be. I’m still a fan of the m390 on the lionsteel options and viper hug.

I have a Bexar and like it, though I rarely carry it. It’s extremely slim, well made, and good action. Mine was dull but a good sharpening turned it into a laser.

I appreciate any traditional made in the USA - even better being from Texas.

Got it in the mail. Overall, worth what I paid. Definitely. Dadgum it’s thin. Almost too thin to grab but the jigging and tallness (that make sense?) help. Spring action is perfect, maybe just a tiny bit lazy when fully closed. It was used so I can’t speak for the factory edge, but it sharpened up really easy. That worries me slightly that it might be a bit soft to really make best use of the Magnacut (I am not one that thinks it needs to be 65!). Time will have to tell though, Magnacut does act a little weird sometimes and I’ve only sharpened it once before. Overall, I’m pretty pleased. I’ll carry it awhile and see how it plays out. Simple knife, thin, light, gets very sharp, and nothing extra that’s not needed.

Congrats, but come on, you gotta post pics!

Not much but here ya go! It came with a nice zirc bead and lanyard but I’m not a big lanyard guy on in pocket knives so, it got yanked.

I guess it could be ground a little thinner behind the edge. Only thing I’ve cut yet is butter. But it did that with gusto… 😂😂

Despite the stop pin, the blade on mine touches the backspring about a cm back from the tip for a small segment. Need to sit down and sharpen that out some day.
