Here is one I have never seen before? Looks like Camillus made it for Schrade? Any opinions as to it origins? It is about 3 1/4" long or the same size as a 34OT.

Its a "made under Licence from Taylor Cutlery LLC." post 2004 in an original pre 2004 Schrade Tube and paperwork. IMO there has been a switcharooey of the Tube and paperwork....the paperwork that would have accompanied that knife discusses "when the factory closed in 2004 Production of these knives was moved to Camillus, New York.".....the knife has no connection whatsoever with Schrade Ellenville or Walden.....apart from the dubious claim to being a Schrade Walden on the tang......many have been caught out thinking they were buying a Walden made and even harder to distinguish when knife put in an original Schrade paperwork tube.......

There are no numbers or anything on the reverse of the main tang or any of the other blades. Don

Hal and Larry: What are you seeing that tells you these are not ISC knives? Is it the total lack of a pattern stamp?

These kinda knives have been confounding me for a while. I see many of them at auction. The Taylors with this stamping are extra tricky to spot.

1) Experience
2) The plastic is an off color, too light
3) Schrade usually stamped the back of the blade
4) Schade on the shield, Schrade Walden on the stamp
5) Font on the stamp looks like a Taylor.
6) Schrade rarely used the Everlastingly Sharp etch
7) I don't see this one in any catalogs or flyers
8) Schrade rarely used this stamp after 1973.

More than anything, it just don't pass the eye test. :D

Too many points of contention to get a passing grade. No pattern stamp (or non Schrade number) and that etch in combination are pretty much Taylor made knives most of the time.

I'd bet someone the one you can see in Don's picture just to the left of the imposter is genuine Schrade Walden. I can tell that is a correct stamp.

G'day DONT 44 &Dave, more than possibly made by Camillus especially as the original paperwork stated this was so...however you read non Ellenville Schrade paperwork at your own peril collector wise....the Licence was flicked to a few....<its also why the knife has to be purchased to see the "inside" statements,as there is little hint it is not genuine Walden outside....reason why most Ebay sellers remove the paperwork and sell in empty tube or with no tube as it gives "the game away".....
I have both examples...the post 2004 I have wouldn't even cut butter, worst knife edge on any knife I own...feels squarish and does not sit comfortably in the hand like a genuine Schrade....<dont know why Camillus previously made knives for Schrade pre 2004 however its like the Camillus "Tobacco series stockmans....really average build quality which is why they sell for squat>...
Dave, you are right the number would be on the genuine knife.
DONT44 what is the number on the end tube paperwork in your photo?...<the guarantee portion has already been removed> dont know why anyone would fill out a guarantee on the post 2004 knife...<I can see enough of the paperwork to know its genuine pre 2004 paperwork and not the Taylor Brands "imitator"....sorry if all this info seems harsh however your original question was "any opinions as to its origins"?...Ebay sellers have been having a 'field day' at new collectors expense for the past 5 years....Hoo Roo

P.S. this was posted before I saw Hals' response...however I concur entirely with his statements.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I have a large collection of 834/34OT style knives from Schrade/Imperial/Camillus/Buck/Remington and some others with the same three blade combination and have been collecting them since the 1970’s. I knew when I bought the knife it was not an original Schrade Walden. I could tell from the picture. It has pins through the bolsters and no real SW's would. As everyone knows Schrade used a hidden pivot pin on their knives with what is called the "Swinden Key System", Camillus did not use this system. I did not think it was a China copy either. I was guessing from the pictures that it was put together by Camillus after Schrade closed down. Does anyone agree with this assessment? The case in the picture is not the case it came in when it arrived in the mail. It came in a different case so the case is no help in determining who put the knife together.

I believe it is a Camillus made knife too Don. Probably a decent one at that. Nothing wrong with adding another 3 5/16" stockman to your collection.

The high tangs on these post 2004 knives is another giveaway, they were never this size on regular Schrade folders.

Does anyone have one of these cream handled knives in the Camillus tubes with paperwork? The original Camillus made knives had a more yellow handle, these cream one followed later, I thought after Camillus had closed and were possibly made by Utica as was the red and green stockmans that have been around for a while.

I have to agree with all of you. 3 or 4 years back smkw had these for sale. I bought one just to see if the packaging and original paperwork were legit and that I cannot say with any certainty. Nice knives and definatly made in the usa just not before 2004 by schrade, IMHO- Joel
