An Investigator!

What do I call a copper extreme duty pen
AWESOME!

Fellow forum goers I'd like to share my experiences with Mr Hinderer's pens and ask your insight on areas of interest

this tall tale begins late last year when a fellow forum member offered his fine flamed titanium extreme duty pen complete with 4 attachments for sale here on blade forums in the exchange
for a very reasonable price
I was lucky to snag it
Upon receiving the pen I ogled it, i fondled it, i wrote many a love letter with it
Luckily I never found the opportunity to strike anyone or anything with it
its a lovely pen but Im not in love with it, per se

as fate would have it I happened upon an aluminum investigator for sale in the green forums
for dirt cheap, a deal anyone in their right mind could not pass up
the extreme duty was nice but I really liked the size of this investigator

after some pocket time I thought, this is a really nice pen, but it would be better with some weight to it
so I sought out after stainless steel version. They were sold out everywhere and anyone I came across wanted a first born son for theirs so I settled on copper
Upon receiving this copper investigator I knew nothing about patina or tarnish
I never gave brass-bronze-copper much thought until I came across a few pictures of forced patina's or intentionally tarnished metals
then I was hooked
See Im all about color combo's
I think its friggin awesome to start out with a high shiny bright polish on your favorite item only to have it "age" and take on a totally different character complete with a whole new color scheme
with the added bonus of the ability to simply start over again by polishing

also around this time I became interested in leather and learned how it to changes with use

finally found a ss

and then Mr Hinderer blessed us with the extreme duty in copper!
oh man Im definitely digging this beast of a pen!
it has some real nice weight to it

and so I ask you
what can you tell me about patina?
I've heard about different home-brew mixtures
have any of you tried this - how did it turn out
pictures would be highly appreciated!
thank you pen people

Nice pens.

I do like the look of the forced patina on the copper Investigator.

The new Copper Extreme Duty looks very appealing too.

I have not forced a patina on my pens.

But, to add to this thread I pulled my brass investigator out of my pocket for a photo.

I'm about to swap these o-rings for much smaller ones, so the shiny bits should get more matte in time.

Nice pics & collection. Looks like all you need is one of these. (I was wondering what wallet that is you have. Very nice)

hey thanks man
yes you are correct sir
need brass!

i really like the coloring of yours

may I ask what it looks like after some tarnish sets in?

thanks need2know!
yes I'd recommend the copper extreme duty if you like like weight
and I havent forced anything yet, the darkening of the copper investigator was just due to about a weeks use
I just picked up a bunch of various orings today, Im excited to try them out

the wallet is by moonshine
this one features #93 Buccaneer exterior and cow hide interior
i like its simple slim design
feel free to pm me if you'd like additional info or pictures

Nice wallet, B.

A for brass over time without forced finishing...I have posted these photos before but since it fits in this thread...here they are..

A o-ringed with several months of pocket duty and a brand new brass right out the ziplock.

I swapped the matte bullet on the new pen because it better compliments the matte / worn brass pen better.

hello again pen people
my pens have taken on a nice patina relatively quickly
nothing special just some good ol italian finger grease ;)
the colorful crud is just dried brasso :D

pretty cool I think, adds a bit of character compared to a standard polish

I'm letting my copper patina naturally so I try to never wash my hands right before I use it or anything and its coming along nicely but no where near what you've forced. Makes me impatient.

everyone keeps saying forced, I didnt force anything, they asked for it hahahaha
no seriously nothing has touched them except that brasso you see I was playing around with and my fingers
so Im sure you'll get the same results really soon

what I want to know is
how to get more color?
like blues and purples

pepperoni pizza perhaps?
yeah lets try that ;)

Man, I've been rocking my investigator since Blade Show this year. Here is a pic that I JUST took.

No where near you. I use this every day.

I love the looks of both brand new gear and well used gear...both very appealing.

@illetrik...Those copper pens look fine, I have no suggestions on more color, but the Statue of Liberty sure is green.

so what are you saying
I Need2Know
Are you saying I should leave my pen outside to be "weathered"?

Nope, just saying that the S of L is an example of well weathered copper.

I like the current look of your copper pens,, but if you're wanting more colors and such...perhaps some homework or education thru application is in order.

Let us know what you discover.

Well Need2Know
I took your advice
and left my investigator outside to stand its ground against sandy
I took pics but they didnt turn out
anyway here is the end result

just as you had suspected
it got green!

heres the extreme duty, as it sits now
nothing special just finger juice and use
the seafoam colored jazz is just dried brasso
