What do you carry in the woods?

For trout fishing when the bears are out and about I like this one. My upcoming custom JK will be the perfect compliment to this:

I have heard of a polar bear being killed with a cute little gun like that, but that was because he poked his nose into a tent and was shot point blank. But a charging bear? Remember Jaws? "You go in the cage, cage goes in the water, shark is in the water. Farewell and adieu my fair Spanish ladies...." ;)

Since it`s not legal to carry in Illinois, I would not think of breaking the law. But, I may or may not have carried this one, an S&W 3" .44 Magnum

Or any of these.

And for sure when I go hiking with my wife, I never carry this.

HJK that's a beauty, what caliber? No Polars here, just black bear:)
Those are some nice ones John. I love my Ruger's, that 4 5/8" single six is one of my favorites.

I`ve had that Single Six since around 1978, all my daughters learned to shoot with it, as did my grandson Jon. In a couple of years I`ll be teaching Hayley and Hanna, and a few years after that, Emily.

I have a 5 1/2" Bicentanial that all my kids learned to shoot with. Still my favorite after all these years.

As John indicated, until May we are a non-carry state.

However, if legal to do so, I would have either a .40 or .45acp auto-loader with me.

Since we also do not have big-game, I would not have to take the jumbo package with me

Who lives where you all go to the woods? Ex mob guys in hiding? Bigfoot armed? Wow.

For those of us in IL, the woods is about the only place that we can carry a firearm.

When I get a holster and ammunition for it, I will carry my new Glock 17.

I don't carry anything different in the woods than I do on the street, but in SD the predators are the same in both places.;) Most of the time it's been my Browning Hi-Power, but a couple months ago I bought a Bersa BP9CC which has been added to the mix. It's very thin and even easier to CCW than the BHP. Recently I got a Beretta Nano and added the Trijicon sights to it. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it handles like a dream. The trigger is excellent. If it proves reliable I'll be adding it to the rotation.

Luckily SD is a "Shall issue" state. I've had my permit to CCW since somewhere around '90.

Now that I have a CCW I always carry when in the woods. I still do not have a clear cut favorite and each of these gets time afield.

When hiking during big-game season this is my favorite.

It depends, just how big is this bear?
