Some months ago, I got a pretty nice SAS style psk in a trade. I am thinking of maybe ditching the tin and stowing the items in a different container. The tin is okay for storage, but inconvenient for actual use of the contents.

What do you all keep your PSKs in?

My skull.

Seriously, I don't ever go deep enough into the wilds to need anymore than what I carry on a daily basis in my pockets. I think PSKs are great but if you are carrying single use items around for years that you have never used, you probably never will. Chris

the kit I carry is more of a first aid kit with a few survival items added. I carry an altoids tin wrapped in paracord sealed with black tape . Over the last few weeks I have used the paracord to tie open an access door we were working in. drop down to pull parts/tools up . used a piece of brass wire to temperaryly wire up a pipe . I have used first aid items when contractor dropped a hot silfloss rod and it hit his face , a co-worker cut his hand on lathe wire and this week to treat a contractor who cut his arm bad enough to need several stitches . and I dug out a needle and spider wire to sew on the button on mt trousers at lunch time
My kit is
altoids tin
2 foot black tape (seal tin)
2 foot or so of duct tape
2 #8 hooks, 2 splitshot, needle and 20 ft. spiderwire line in a plastic tube I get jigs in
swedish fire steel scout model minus handle
6 foot brass wire 24 ga
2 zippo tender sticks
2 safety pins
mole skin cut to size of tin
large 2"x4" band aid
surgical scalpel
2 iodine wipes stingeze wipe
packet of burn cream
packet of neosporan
2 butterfly band aid
1 knuckle band aid
1 finger tip band aid
2 motrin
5-6 (as many as will fit and still let tin close ) 1x3" standard band aids
The fishing stuff and fire starting stuff and scalpel are about the only things that haven't been used replaced in the last year
An altoids tin is a pain to close back up if used ,but the ridgid tin protects the stuff better in my work enviroment

I have a Maxpedition bag in my car for when I am hiking. It is more of a "just in case" bag that I use whenever I hike (without a backpack) or when I Geocache. It has quite a bit of stuff in it.

When I camp - I have a lot of this stuff already with me or in my pack - so I have a compression sack with the rest.

I tend to agree with this on practical grounds. However, I freely admit that for me, wilderness gear and gadgetry are toys for fun so I want to use/play with them. :D

My personal survival kit is near me most of the time, but it is relatively large, about 550 square inches. It is more of a possibles bag.
