If you believe that there is a one-knife-do-all, then you probably believe in the Easter Bunny, and Leprechauns. While there isn’t a knife for all occasions the same is true for survival kits. I generally get out for hikes in the deserts, high elevation mountains, and everything in-between. Often my trips take me to other countries and the basic survival kit changes along with the scenery.
Part of my regular survival/woods kit is the Swiss Army Knife
Hiker or Huntsman
OHT rocks too
Usually a stout fixed blade, but not always.
JK Hiker in the Amazon Rainforest 2008
Kephart in the Desert
Survival Kit Priorities
1. Compass- General direction
2. Signaling (2 ways)- Mirror, Whistle
3. Fire (2 ways or more)- firesteel, lighter, matches
4. Water procurement- Purifying tablets, water container
Extras: Duct tape, light, sewing kit, snare wire, fishing kit (hooks, line, safety pins)
Carabineer utility kit and survival kit. Small Aloksak for wet weather in winter time, water activities, or the tropics.
Knife based kit where the kit is part of the knife set up.
Carabineer Survival kit where everything is waterproof and easily accessible.
I used this kit in 2011 while trekking through waist and chest deep water in the jungle and never lost a thing.
Small stashers for the kit
Feel free to post your knife based kit that works for you.
