the blade slaming against the spring holder/filler when closing and dulling the blade? After getting a blade nice and sharp what a bummer it is to dull it like that.

That little 'notch' inside is an all-too-familiar pet peeve of mine (). It turns up on all kinds & brands of knives, including a few customs that I own.

Sometimes, it's not just a problem of the edge hitting when allowing the blade to 'snap' shut. Sometimes the edge will actually ride there, in constant contact with backspring/lockbar/spring holder/spacer. If you squeeze the knife lightly, sometimes you can feel it 'grinding' together in there. I hate that.

More often than not, the problem goes away after a little bit of sharpening. Usually only a little bit of metal needs to come off the edge at the point of contact, and the edge won't (quite) touch the inside of the handle anymore.

In this case, if it were me, I'd send it back to Buck and let them fix that. I'm assuming this is a new knife? Buck does have a great reputation for taking care of their customers.

After looking more into it. I see just pushing the blade while it is in the closed position will make it contact the metal filler plate. So there is no way to stop this. Obviously most people are ok with it. If this were an issue for Buck they would have fixed it by now. Anyway, I still love my new Green Buck 112.

I have a little half *** fix here. Glue some red rubber at the contact area.

I think that is one of the best 'ghetto' mods I have ever seen! Keep in mind that the problem occurs with most manufacturers from time to time and that Buck will repair it under warranty.

I think, as was said, after sharping some metal will be removed and this should be less of a problem. I do like your mod as it should keep the blade off the metal.

That is a known issue of the first gen and has been redesigned so they doesn't happen. Please send that knife back to Buck and have it fixed correctly.

I take knife apart and either grind down the spring holder or cut a vee groove in it.
