What do you do if a Spydie is "too nice" to carry?

Yeah... I have always felt that if it's too nice to carry / use, then I shouldn't buy it. But, then I got the Caly Damascus and it was SO nice. I didn't want to scratch it (not usually how I am). One's in my pocket now. The other may be saved as a future gift for my son (too young now).

Awesome knives!

Yeah, I don't like to buy hanger queen either. Twice I've had to get a second knife of the same model when the one I ordered showed up and said "Preproduction" "#1 of 500".
Not sure if I was happy or not about that...

I'm planning on getting a standard Chaparral so I don't have to carry my Chaparral II

No such thing as 'Too nice to carry'. If you are concerned about damage, carry it on days that you don't expect to need a heavy use knife, or carry a secondary blade. Don't keep the knife locked away though.

Yup!

I used to get duplicates of my favorites, but I've since stopped doing this since I'd much rather use the knife and enjoy it rather than tuck it away and never appreciate it. If it breaks? Oh well, just a reason to get another knife :D

I felt that way about my CF Chaparral. I was blown away by the f&f and ergos, but then I started to carry it and its one tough little soldier :). My GB Air is staying a safe queen though, its just way too pretty and nice and the lack of a pocket clip means I'll lose it easy.

I see myself buying another Air sometime later :D

I've personally never had many safe queens as some of you refer to collector's grade knives. I do have about 6 to 8 or so that I deem sentimentally important and I do not want to use them but rather save them. I also have a few of what I like to call back up units>> For instance I have an extra C-60 Ayoob I aquired in a trade so if I lose my EDC Ayoob I have a back up unit handy just in case I was to lose my EDC as I have had happen about 3 times in the past 10 years or so.

Now there was one blade that I could never bring myself to use. But I'm hoping that will change because I hear that Spyderco is reintroducing this model in a better blade steel. I'm referring the LUM Tanto fixed blade. The first one I had just looked so pretty that I could never bring myself to use it and scratch it up. But that doesn't happen too often with me because I've changed radically in that area. Now if I want to use a blade I just simply go ahead and indulge. I use to collect and trade a lot of blades and I don't do that nearly as much amy more.

But I usually don't use many at one time. My current rotation consists of maybe 12 to 14 blades. That's the big reason I never got into damascus and other eye candy. At this time I'm much more of a user than I am a collector.

So there's your answer... don't buy it... or buy TWO :)
