What do you do w/ your old knives?

Although I don't consider myself a knife collector I've always loved knives and I always feel the need to buy more knives (even though my wife doesn't understand why). I also rarely spend more than 70-80$ on my EDC purchases and normally it's less. I formally worked in the field as a biologist, hunter, fence builder, env. educator, etc. and actually used my knife daily. My question, what do you do with your older knives that are no longer in your EDC rotation? I've given away numerous knives to friends and co-workers that weren't knife carriers but always seemed to borrow mine. A few times I made purchases where after carrying the knife and using it a few times I realized that the ergonomics, blade shape, weight, etc. wasn't what I wanted. Those were given away a bit sooner.

I know from reading a lot of the posts many of you buy a lot more knives than I, what do you do with them all? I guess I've never considered myself a collector because I always buy knives with the intent to put them to work, not as a collector's item or an investment. I expect that it may be lost or damaged at work which is why I normally don't purchase EDC's over 70$. Maybe I'm trying to rationalize my interest in knives and my need for variety, I sometimes tell my other half "better to have many knives than many wives, right?".

I don't have a whole lot of knives, but I use my old ones as practice for sharpening and for meditation (I'll sharpen them for no reason).

I usually only buy something that gets into the EDC rotation. Then I either Mod them, or do as THG does; theraputic sharpening.

I usually only buy a new knife when my old one breaks (getting a Spyderco Vagabond in less than a week :D). I either keep my old one as a backup, or I'll pawn it off.

I wish I knew some teenagers who were new hunters .I'd ask them to do work around the house and pay them with a knife .

I have a brother, father, and nephews that like knives as much as I do, my problem is hanging onto knives for any length of time before they get claimed by family members. I have also just given knives away to people I don't know. Doing a giveaway here on the forums is a popular way to rid yourself of unneeded blades as well.

Usually I end up losing them. :)

I'll probably do a forum giveaway next time I have I knife I don't ever use.
