Although I don't consider myself a knife collector I've always loved knives and I always feel the need to buy more knives (even though my wife doesn't understand why). I also rarely spend more than 70-80$ on my EDC purchases and normally it's less. I formally worked in the field as a biologist, hunter, fence builder, env. educator, etc. and actually used my knife daily. My question, what do you do with your older knives that are no longer in your EDC rotation? I've given away numerous knives to friends and co-workers that weren't knife carriers but always seemed to borrow mine. A few times I made purchases where after carrying the knife and using it a few times I realized that the ergonomics, blade shape, weight, etc. wasn't what I wanted. Those were given away a bit sooner.
I know from reading a lot of the posts many of you buy a lot more knives than I, what do you do with them all? I guess I've never considered myself a collector because I always buy knives with the intent to put them to work, not as a collector's item or an investment. I expect that it may be lost or damaged at work which is why I normally don't purchase EDC's over 70$. Maybe I'm trying to rationalize my interest in knives and my need for variety, I sometimes tell my other half "better to have many knives than many wives, right?".
