I've been wondering, what do you guys use flap sanders for? I'm spacifically interested on how they are used for handle material. Would they be used to get the bead blasted effect?

Sincerely,
Adam

Self improvement is a hobby of mine :).

The advantage of flap sanders in my opinion is that they round things very nicely but do not dig in like a belt. The downside is that they do not remove a lot of material and do not last very long.

The flap wheels which alternate scotchbrite and sandpaper are the softest.

They leave a scratched sandpaper like finsh depending on the grit.

they work great on smoothing out things like george said above....BUT...they do not work so great when you are hitting two materials that are not the same hardness....problems arise.. thats why few knife makers use them and lots of furniture makers do...
