I haven't had a chance to handle one, but I like the idea of a longer blade - 7" is a handy utility length, but for a fighting knife, I want something a little longer. The only things I don't like about it are the price (compared to the original) and what appears to be a straight swedge on the blade, I like a little bit of a curve. I think it is a great knife and well worthy of the Ka-Bar name.

It differs from the originals in a lot of respects. It has a stainless blade instead of carbon steel, it has a Kraton handle instead of the leather rings and the fit and finish are superior to the originals. Overall, it's a good value-as are all the Kabars. I've never heard an unkind word about them from any customer. You should be fine with that choice. Take care.

Handles were very comfortable and I liked the weighting on it. The Kydex sheath was a little to tight in my opinion though, but I'm sure it will get easier to draw from with a little breaking in.

The reduction of the top part of the guard is a plus IME. It allows for one to choke up and lets the thumb rest on the spine to start up a tuff cut. Of course there are more suitable models out there for utility/ camp chores but I imagine the soon to be available KaBar in D2 STEEL will do its job nicely.

A lot of knife at 8", with an oval Kraton(?) handle, lanyard hole in the butt cap and 12C27 construction. Move your hand back on the handle and it swings and chops like a much bigger knife. All in all a pretty darn good piece.

I have one. Haven't used it much, though. I have a regular Ka-bar which has seen much more use. Blade geometry is OK. Tip is very strong (I can open tuna cans with it). These two it has in common with the standard ka-bar. I don't know how well it sharpens.
Handle feels great (removing the top part of the guard is a great improvement). Lanyard allows one to not lose knife around water. I don't know about the DEET resistance of the handle. Does anyone know this?

Is this the same for all Tanto points? I remember trying to make a simple makeshift alcohol stove out of a pop can while camping... pierced holes with an Opinel and the tip broke, just a bit. (guess they're great for cutting not piercing!)

Anyways, I am reluctant to try the same thing with any other folder now, although I am wondering if Tanto points will hold up generally. My only tanto is a CS Medium Voyager.

I have a Ka-Bar

I reach for the Ka-Bar more

I just like the grip, the blade, the whole thing.
