What do you guys think about the Work Sharp?

that does look like a neat machine, and probably very good for those that use thier chisels and planes alot, and need to do alot of sharpening.

for my once-in-a-while chisels though, i will stick with my stones.

i like that the guy presenting the machine to the woodworkers actually seems to know what he is talking about, like when he mentions the lapping compound to remove the burr from the back of the tool.

It is impossible to adapt something like this to sharpen knife.

Thanks, Vassili.

I like how the wheel moves up and down when he pushes the tool into it, looks SOLID;) I like the idea of the glass disk but if its not mounted solidly it doesn’t matter how precisely flat the disk is.

I do have a drill doctor though, and liked it until I learned how to tackle the "highly complex challenge" of hand sharpening drill bits, took me a couple hours to learn and I can now get them much better than the drill doctor can, its really not that hard.

Not really impossible... I'd like to try to use the open top part of the disc to sharpen freehand. I've used stones for years, but I think that since this moves at a slower speed, and has a wide surface area, it might do a good job. I like the flat glass disc and the interchangeable grits. Of course I'd take it to some finer stones and strops for finishing....

Theres a similar horizontal disc machine in a japanese woodworking catalog for $600.

Oh and yeah I did see the disc kind of flex a little bit. But also, you had a n00b clumsily jamming the damn chisel up in there.
