What do you guys think about this knife?

I like it. The only experience with Mcusta I have is a Browning Ice Storm made by them. Its a great knife for what I paid.

That knife looks nice, but sadly I dont have experience with that particular model. I do have a MC-1 in black micarta and vg-10 damscus though, and it is a great knife. The lockup is solid, and the knife came lazer sharp and is still almost that sharp after almost a year, granted it is my special occasion knife and is not used much. I hope this helps a wee bit.

hello, i have that exact knife, its very smooth opening, super sharp blade, the style of the blade reminds me of a sword. nice anodizing & deep pocket clip. ive carried it on numerous occasions over the last 3 years, you cant go wrong with it.you can see more nice pics at japaneseknifedirect.com.i just picked up another mcusta, with laminated blade & corian handle, its another cool one, blade is 3 5/8" long, the katana blade your looking at is about 3 1/4" blade.

The Browning Ice Storm with curved handle is very close to that Mcusta Katana knife. It has (at first and 2nd sights) the same handle, but in one colour. The red is in practice deep red, wine-like. And the gold one is cool too. These are matte/satin colours. Now the blade is different; it is exactly the same as the one of the Mcusta Stingray (I know becaue I compared them side by side).
The Browning Ice Storm with curved handle (the straight handled one is very different and I don't have experience with it), is in my opinion on of the true bargains in the knife world, esp when bought at CDNN or at a good ebay dealer price.
So, I suggest to buy this one instead of the Katana, and if when buy a Mcusta (you really can't go wrong with them anyway!), then why not check the Tactility series, or the more classic layered damascus models. Japaneseknifedirect currently has a small -10% sale going on.

Just a couple comments on design, my opinion of course... aluminum handles while strong could be slippery and the liner lock is.... well, a liner lock.

I don't have any experience with the knife. But some thoughts of mine are,

That seems kinda of expensive for a knife that is a, liner lock, and uses Teflon washers. And while the steel is not bad, for that price i think it should come with a better blade steel. For around that same price you can get a BM 710 with an axis lock, D2 blade, and bronze washers.

Just my three cents.

I'd be leery of the very obtuse angle on that semi "tanto" angle.

It LOOKS like it would want to round off easily.

I sharpen tanto style blades on a flat diamond stone with each edge separately.

A rod sharpener would go after that small "point" more aggressively than the rest of the blade, I would think.

I own 4 Ice Storms (two green straight handle, one curved gold and one curved maroon) and 7 Mcustas. I think Mcustas are the bomb. I love them. Fit and finish is top notch and function is spot on. Fairly priced too!

Also check out the Mcusta Tactility models. Super nice knives with a left/right tip up clip option. I have the black Micarta and the black spotted Corian handle models.

+1 with what ElectrikHellfire said about the Browning Ice Storm. Excellent knives!

I too was considering the Mcusta Blue/Orange model, but then I found out about the Browning Ice Storm at cdnninvestments.com and picked up a couple of those instead.
(Still gave newgraham some other business though...) :)

Regards,
Mike

I have that very same knife, along with several other Mcustas, and also would recommend them. Very nice fit and finish, great steel, and they open smooth as silk. Lockup on all of mine is very good:thumbup:
