What do you guys think is a great tool system for bushcraft?

My personal favorite is the Ontario SP8 for dedicated chopping and larger tasks, Schrade SCHF36 for a mainline bushcraft knife, and of course the LapLander for sawing.

Fallkniven F1, a folding saw, and a Vic Farmer. if im gonna add a big chopper, I bring my Junglas

4-5" Fixed blade, folding saw, multi-tool

My favorite load is my Bravo 1 LT, Bahco Laplander, SAK One Hand Trekker or Leatherman Skeletool.

Kinda depends where you are headed, and how you are planning to get there imo

So far my folding saw, Mora, sak farmer and bk9 have left me feeling quite prepared. I think id be more than ok with just a bk16, and the sak farmer though.

Chopper: Gransfors Bruks SFA or GSO-10
Saw: Bahco Laplander
Medium Fixed Blade: Custom in CPM-10V or GSO-4.1 in M390
Folder: Victorinox Pioneer/Harvester or Victorinox Carver

Depends on the area mostly, my last outing in Oregon it was pouring rain about 75% of the time, I didn't really use the saw, but the chopper came in extremely handy for getting into the dry core of the branches or digging out dry wood from dead fall. It still took us about 2 hours to finally get a fire going on our very damp wood.

In Utah, there's not near as much wood (or rain), and what there is, is much smaller, so I rarely even take a chopper. A saw and Med. fixed (+back up folder) is all thats needed.

--5 or 7" leuku and puukko combo
--maybe a 14" bolo
--BK-11 san mai
--SAK in the pack

Fallkniven volcano and juni, roselli axe, small folding saw. Buck 110 and cold steel outdoorsman for back up

Having a Stradivarius does not make one a musician.

But, Nessmuk's "trinity" system developed 100 years ago does everything I need in my terrain.

While hiking, my "system" consists of a folder and a medium fixed blade. If I think I might be chopping, a short machete. Add in a small folding saw if I am camping or doing a photo safari.

This thread needs pics (albeit bad ones from me!). This is my current set-up;

Bidor Parang locally made here in Malaysia (but with a pinned handle unlike most) and a BRKT Ultra Lite Bushcrafter in CPM3V.

I actually have a couple of combos of this with a 10 and a 12 inch Parang and another Ultra Lite with G10 handles and kydex sheath all round. Works for me! ;)

Cheers,

Ben

My set up is:
4-5" Knife ( many to choose from, usually bring a couple)
Large knife ( Ontario SP 49 or BK9)
Folding saw ( Silky Gomboy)
Condor Bolo Machete
Estwing Camper's axe.

My usual:
Baryonyx Machete
3-4" bladed pocket knife (varies)
Silky Pocketboy 170

TOPS Tahoma Field Knife/Tom Brown Tracker for heavy stuff, then an ESEE Izula for the finer things. Depending on how much chopping there is to be done, I may substitute in my Wolf Pax 2.

Hi Ben - how thick is the blade on your Bidor parang? (I assume its from Outdoor Dynamics?) Does it have a distal taper?
