Want to hunt one down. I had an AK about 7 years ago but felt it was a tad short. What do you think of these guys vs the AK and which do you prefer, the full our short version?

The long Butaniku is quite long, if you found the AK just a bit short, stay with the short Butaniku. I didn't grab a shorty, just my observation from owning AKs and a long Buk.

Ask Morimotom.
Good to see you, Paul.
I say, it it's INFI, get it.

I like them all as well. Personally I want an Waki in INFI, but I think they all have their adv/disadvantages. Like Lycosa said....it's INFI. ...get em all.

i have the ak and love it. i wanted something similar that was longer so i ordered the long butaniku but ended up selling it. i found it felt unwieldy as it was much heavier than the ak47 and also alot more blade heavy. i also liked the straight edge of the ak47 alot more than the curve in the butaniku. that said i am tempted by the short butaniku

I agree with azoth. I love my AK. In fact, all three of the Bussekin longblades in that family are wonderful: AK, Waki, and Scrapi. I like the butaniku for what it is; but it's a handful......you've got quite a bit of weight forward, and it can be unwieldy. I would have to say, if I had to choose to carry it as an infantryman of old, I don't know that I would. Recovery time would not be quick enough for real combat, I'd suspect.

I also have the short butaniku; got it at the recent ganza. I like it....trying to figure out how much. It seems to be the perfect length for a CQB reach/handling compromise...in the range of the length of an old naval cutlass (~20-25"). It does have weight, and weight forward, though......not as much as the butaniku; but it's definitely not an AK. I think I'd prefer it slightly wider, but a bit thinner. I would love to see an INFI sword and how the steel would perform at historical sword dimensions. It's a wonderful cutlery steel; the problem is that its amazing performance in hard use knives has led to an expectation of use that could never fit ANY long sword. Anything can break; and the longer the blade, the more the forces of impact will work on the steel. That's just basic engineering.

Essentially, having a sword made of INFI with true sword dimensions would require its owner to refrain from chopping down trees and cutting up cars. But I'm thinking that its performance at true sword tasks would be awesome.

The big but is really long and with g10 handles it feels good for two hand use, not so much for just one hand like you can with the AK. I don't have the short but yet to give feedback, but I am pretty sure it will be just about perfect.

Rolf & Jason, glad to see you guys are still around here! How is everything?

Thanks for the input everyone, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the short version then!

Allz well, Paul. And you?
INFI is still the real-deal. Imagine.
And yea, FOLDER.
