what do you guys think of this

That's a product called a "Multi-Tool" and benchgrinder combo. It's a decent price. There're guys for whom that's their main grinder. You can get them with an 8" wheel, too. i don't know how common 2x36" belts are, but 4x36" could be split....

Multi-Tool

for that price I would save up a little more and get a Grizzley or Kalamazoo I think.

Industrial abrasives have or will make belts in any size you can imagine. You just have to buy enough to use up the entire belt stock they have to split up to make the size you want. You might give them a call before you buy to check out the prices and available belt grits and weights.

I own a multi tool and its great for sharpening and handle work. Its underpowered for roughing out blades. You can do it but its slooooow. A grizzly is about a hundred bucks more but will do more for you in the long run in my opinion

It is rated @ 1/2 HP , prolly overstated. To be productive/useful,
belt grinder would need at lest 3/4 honest HPs.

I recommend starting with the Wolksgrinder - one you build
yourself :)

Save up for a 2x72. If you're serious about making knives, you're going to end up buying one anyway. The belt selection for 2x72 is much better.

I have used the 2 x 36 inch multitool for years. The best thing I have done since buying it was getting a 2 x 72 inch grinde,

They are all right but spin too fast (2850 rpm) and get hot and if you make a little mistake it is a big one at that speed.

If you're on a budget, I would recommend the Grizzly. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with the multitool. Good luck!

I have one very similar, by Ryobi. Only one hitch are the belts, one size in my area of the world. Otherwise great.

I am looking at setting this aside for handles and getting a table sander by Ryobi that I can get Mirka? belts for. A tad costly though.

Mke I meant to get back to you. I got that 1X30 out and tried to get it running. There is a real problem with it that has to do with the disc sander. If i can fix it, the belt will run fine but right now, theres a weird slipping problem that is caused by a wobble in the disc sander. I think I can straighten it out....I'll pm you.

i have one of the multi-tools ive been using it for a week now(got it for handle work) and that thing cranks! its soooooo fast its kinda scary. it works brass like butter though. im still gonna get a kmg real soon but this will curb my crave for......probably a day or so. i just thought it would be a good thing to have a grinder dedicated to wood only. i can get a ton of different belts for it(4 different brands in up to 400 grit). i will get a kmg hopefully within the next month. its gonna be kinda difficult, my girlfriend had some extensive surgery and has been off work for about a month with a month to go. thats the only reason i havent got it yet. TikTock the 1x30 is for BadKarma:D
sorry for babbling
