What kind of axe, tomohawk, or kukri do you guys use when camping... and why do you prefer it?

I don't backpack camp. I truck & camper camp. I bring the bins-o-steel with me. But i also have many combos that would suit you.

Eastwing axe
CS Trail Hawk
Ontario Spec-Plus kukri

A Becker BK9 or BK7 or BK2 or BK10 or BK4 would also do just fine, as would a Condor Boomslang, Ontario SP8, SP10, Tops Alaskan Harpoon & many, many others. The list is endless. Condor is about to release some chopper goodness, called the Warlock machete, Lochnessmuk, & Pack Golock Knife.

I personally prefer a knife type blade for splitting firewood that has already been cut to length. You can baton an axe, but i prefer using a knife. The blade is much longer, i place it where i want it, then baton it. Those who can really wield an axe with precision would prefer an axe. I can not, so i prefer a large knife. Once you use them all, you will have your preference.

From your list of options: CS Kukri- the cheap, thin, light and flexible one. But I also bring by Junglas along for the ride.

I eliminated the khukri because it's less effective than an axe and less well-rounded than a large knife. An axe is way better at heavy wood processing than a knife, but it's heavy to carry. I process all my firewood with a chainsaw and an axe. But I can make a large knife work in a backpacking or emergency situation.

Looks like an axe is the way to go... You guys ever use the Gransfor Bruks Wild life axe?
I think it ways like 1.5 pounds and has a leather sheath that straps to your belt... looks like an effective camper

Depends on where I am going for me.

Sometimes I bring a Busse B11 (with two smaller piggy back knives CABS and Muck).

Sometimes I bring a Khukri (KZII not a traditional Khukri, but a Busse).

I also bring a couple of hawks depending on where I am going, (CS rifleman, CS Norsehawk, and CS spike hawk), and a Magnum Khukri machete depending.

If I had to hike my gear in, less gets brought. The B11 is much lighter, and gets the nod.

I prefer a 'hawk with a hammer on the back, so when splitting wood i can always hit it with another hammer or a rock, to drive it through. If its to big to process with a 'hawk its to big for me to worry about while camping...
