What do you keep for signaling?

I bought one from the maker a few years ago
been on my "survival" ring ever since
I polished it much more than what it was when new.
(it is very polished even though it doesnt show in the pics)
That reflective sticker really does light up when hit by light,
never saw anything so reflective!

Yeah, that tape is "SOLAS" tape, US Coast Guard standard for reflectiveness. It's supposed to be visible past 200 yards when lit up with a Surefire G2. A person would be hard-pressed to come up with anything more reflective.

Anyway, they are cool little gadgets; very useful.

I have a couple standard signal mirrors, but these little SAR dog tags are cool too. I like to keep one on my person and then a full-size signal mirror in the pack as the mirror on the dog tag is smaller and redundancy is good.
crktm1612m, ditto on the signal mirror in the pack. I also have a USCG pocket strobe, Greatlands green laser, & of course the Storm signal whistle. I figure if any of these can't get someone to me if I get lost, then I deserve to be where I am at . . . :)
Those SAR tags are neat little items to have.
Be safe.

Alright, that's just cool! I've been toying with the idea of wearing a stylish ferro rod as a necklace, but this might be even better.

Thanks for posting!

I have a typical signal mirror in my pack. I like the idea of those dog tags! :)

I took 3 of those dog tag mirrors and taped them side to side with duct tape on the back side.. Makes a full size mirror that folds up, and you can still wear it around the neck if ya want! Mine dont have the sight hole though.....

I have an AMK mirror in each of my main packs, and even a plastic one in my urban EDC belt pouch.

I have carried a laser a few times - a fairly powerful greeny (30mW iirc). It can be seen very clearly if there's the slightest amount of moisture in the air. My wife can see it from our house when I'm on a hill well over a mile away. Just got to be careful where I point it, and make sure there are no 'planes overhead at the time!

I've wanted a set of those pen flares since I first saw them at least 20 years ago. Never got them...

if i'm way out back, i have a pen flare gun from my dad. Every couple of years we blow off the flares and get new ones.

The laser is a good idea, however it would be dangerous for any aircraft and should really only be used for ground signaling or a VERY last resort to the sky.

The maker, SAR, also does some small polished discs as necklaces for the poster who mentioned the necklace thing. SAR Global tool.

Next time you get a bum DVD-R disc keep it. Stash it away as a super thin , cheap , easy to pack signal mirror. Has hole already. I keep one in the bottom of my tackle box. Regular UST mirror is in my survival kit along with a Blastmatch.

I've got a few signal mirrors but I like theCDS for kids to use.

Sometimes I wish I had this for signal trials though
Its pretty shiny and gets alot of pilot's attention
