Howdy!
Just want to see what you keep in your hollow handles. I am probably going to start carrying my MK on a more continuous basis, so I'd like some ideas from those of you who already do this.
I am planning on some sort of fire starter, some money (bills), some medicine, maybe a little SAK.

Hey Rooikat,

When I first went on a search for info on hollow handled knives I found the blokes in the Wilderness & Survival skills were of excellent help. Off the back of that, and many years later I finally got my Project II.

Last time I was out in the field, everything was a little last minute and the saga of customising the contents continues. Thus far, here's the deal:

First off my beautiful girl stitched me a nice DPM pouch, in profile similar to the inside of the handle. It has a small lanyard attached so that I can pull the whole lot out and get what I need rather than either emptying everything into a cold and wet hand or trying to did in the handle to find what I'm looking for.

The contents are as follows:

Chlorine steri-tabs
Condom (dry)
Cotton wool
Fishing line
Fish hook & weights
Victorinox plastic toothpick
Victorinox tweezers
Snare wire
Matches & striker strip*

That's everything for now. I think I want a piece of Pertex Quantum to make a new pouch with as it's lower volume and will be enhancing the bits and bobs I carry. I was fairly pleased with the contents on my first outing though.

Hope that's of use.

Craig.

* I waterproofed a book of matches by dipping the ends in wax, pulled them out of the book in one strip, cut the striking strip from the book and wrapped them round all the other stuff in the pouch.

Thanks for the ideas! I like the concept of having a smaller container inside the handle; that makes sense.
I also like your method of waterproofing the matches. I will be experimenting with that before too long.
