What do you keep your knife collection in?

As my collection grows, I've out grown the usual methods. Primarily I'm looking for accessibility. Not really interested in display cases. Larger fixed blades will probably need a separate solution. Anyway, what is your method? Thanks.

Craftsman tool chests. Lockable, affordable, expandable, not easily carried off.

Hi jfrye -

Several folks here have mentioned in past threads that they use the multi-drawer toolboxes such as found at Sears etc.

I know that you can get similar tool chests from Lowes and Harbor Freight much cheaper than Sears, but I think the quality is not the same.

Might work well for your purposes.

I am still looking for the right way to store my knifes - I want to display them and keep them accessible so I can choose which knife I want to take with me on each occasion.

You may reference this recent thread on the subject if you wish

For folders I use a Spyderco SpyderPac. It comes in two sizes.

Curious if any of you use dessicant pouches or similar to keep moisture away in storage?
No. From what I've read dessicants can, under certain conditions, release the moisture they've absorbed.

Besides, the Craftsman boxes are well-ventilated.

I got a multipocketed roll for a good portion on my EDC folders. It has clear vinyl pockets so I can see which knife I'm looking for.

The case was originally designed as a travel/display case for Mary Kay cosmetics. My wife is in the Mary Kay business (no pink Caddy yet :grumpy:), and I saw one that she had some product. I mentioned that it would be great for storing my folders. Guess what I got for Christmas....

It's made of black nylon and vinyl, looks nice. Also has some snaps on the top so it can be hung from a towel or closet bar.

PVK 18 folder knife bags. Fixed blades loose. All in 3 Tupperware boxes stacked. Folders, fixed, boxes & extras on bottom. :)

I have an old wooden cabinet, with eleven drawers. It's a work-in-progress, refinishing, etc. It's a good way to store pretty much anything, right now it's my knives & special tools. My heirlooms & gift knives & items I'll pass on to my son I have in a nice mahogany cigar box on the dresser.

Almost all of mine are users; so, I don't mind them 'banging around' in their drawers. The few collectible knives I have are in small ziplock bags.

My fixed blades are in a sealed plastic tub in the closet, with desiccant packs. (It can release moisture, but only under certain circumstances.) I change out the desiccant packs every few months anyway.

Here's a thread on a system - a lockable Pelican-brand case - used by another member (zyhano) here:

got a Kobalt chest at home depot. all stainless steel. lockable. drawers have a soft plastic matt that keeps the knives where you put them. very nice, heavy duty box - i'm very satisfied with it.

I keep my folders in two boxes. To prevent them scratching each other I bought dozens of baby socks. It seems a good storage method, but my mother does now expect grandchildren.

Most of my folders are in a old watch crystal case that has 8 slide out drawers. The rest and the majority are in a gun safe that has all shelves in it.

Wooden machinists Toolbox, felt lining keeps them from sliding around. Great place for storing sharpening stones and tools for making repairs.

just the other day i bought a large shallow rubber storage case and just stacked all my folders in their boxes. my favorites and users are kept loose in a drawer and on my desk.

I use the large Spyderpac (holds 30 folders or more if you get creative), the Kershaw knifebag (holds 18+ is you add more pouches), and a couple of individual ZT/Kershaw pouches with the zipper that accomodates a single folders. Fixed blades are in their own Rubbermaid tub. They reside in their boxes.

I keep my collection In a handgun safe specifically designed for my knives. And my guns In a safe specifically designed for my guns.

If someone asks to see them they can wait outside my bedroom till I pull them out and set them on my bed.

Why the safe you ask? Because we threw a party at our house and I walked In my bedroom to find a 9 year old playing with my ZT-300.. tore my box apart getting It out too.
