I was at a local Knife Knut's night, and one of the attendee's (Jack Feder) brought along this magnificent piece.

He thought it was one-of-a-kind, but it has the #4 stamped on it making me think it is a short series.

It is stunning in it's simplicity and complexity at the same time. Unbelievably well done and precise. IT was offered for sale, but it wasn't cheap. I would like to know more. I took a bunch of shots of it while I could to find out.

What do you think or know?? Thanks.

Harrydog: It wasn't too long. Probably about 7-8". I didn't measure. Blade material? I was hoping you'd tell me! ;)

Price? Like I said.... He stated he would be *asking* around $900 for it. As much as I loved it, I had to pass. I still gotta say it was incredible. But I'd STILL like to know more info. Ho many are out there? How old? Who *really* made it...?

Fill me in!

You better watch out for that old crook Jack Feder!;) He'll have you you paying double for a knife then have you convinced you got a once in a lifetime deal!:D

Blade 747, tell Jack I said Hi next time you see him.

I recall a similar piece selling on eBay last year, can't recall the price but it was up there. IIRC they are custom pieces hand made by Chris.

Thanks Architect! Nice detective work!

Very interesting.... I'm still on the fence though. I'm certain I can make Jack a better offer. Will he accept it? Hmmmm....

Coop.

I just had a phone call from Greg Sprinkel asking the details about this knife and so thought I'd post here and answer everyone at the same time!

If you have read the link to the post listed by Architect, you will note that these knives were designed and made by Chris quite a while ago. I know I mentioned somewhere in the region of five years ago - when Chris and I started working it out, we think it is closer to 10 years ago. He made these for the Knifemakers Guild Show some time after we purchased our first CNC machining center (which was in 1991). He machined 10 blanks but not all of these were finished. The design is most unusual - combining the concepts of an integral handle at the hilt, transfering to a narrow tang at the end of the handle. The name Chris gave was Inter-Outegral - a fun description of the inlay work on the handle. The knife shown in these pictures had a Moroccan Thuya burl inlay handle, the steel is 440C. He also used desert ironwood and, as best we can recall, he made one with ivory or mammoth as well.

It should also be noted that the designs that come out of Chris Reeve Knives are Chris' original designs. Scott Cook had absolutely nothing to do with these Inter-Outegrals - they were completed before his time at our company. If some of his knives look similar to those made by Chris or the current craftsmen at Chris Reeve Knives, it is because he has been influenced by our designs, not vice versa.

If you are gonna buy it, you better do it before Raindrop jumps on it.;) Although I haven't seen him around here much. Hope he hasn't lost his Sebbie bug. Maybe he is just leaving a few for the rest of us.:D
