I was showing some freinds at work my G.S. You talk about some eyes popping out. Everyone was awed by the size and craftmanship of it. Of course the most common quistion is "what do you do with it?" We talked about the utility use survival and defense aspect. Most agreed but you usualy get one or two who say a real woodsman would never need or carry anything so big ad heavy. I always point out that around the world thru out history that peaple that live in a survival or primative type world have carried large knives. The machetti is a consant companion in the jungles, the barong, etc.. The point is if they did not need or want such a large blade I doubt that they would be carring them. If you want to know what works look to the peaple that carry and use them.

And as we all know, regardless of what some may say, size really does matter!

Size with abilty and flexability--- (timing, speed, control) is hard to beat. Knowledge is power.

Ever since I came to this country I have learned that many people here are really scared of edge weapons. Also, when I was in the service, I would reach for my blade most of the time. My companions were confused. Even now, when I arrest someone, I would ask them if they had a choice of a weapon I would use on them, they would pick my .45 HK all the time, instead of my Barong (15" blade). I asked them why, and most of them would reply, " I can take a bullet, but if I had my arm or head cut off, I can't deal with it." Edge weapons are good, they are quiet, they don't run out of ammo, and you don't have to register them yet.

I totaly agree. In all my studing of edged weapons I have found that a large number of peaple including some very big tough guy type are really nervous about edged weapons. And it appears that the bigger it is the more nervous they get. I thing it kind of boils down to the fact that everybody has been cut at some time but not everyone has been shot so they can not compare. Kind of like my phobia of getting shots. Those needles give me the willies. Don't mind being cut now and then, it happens from time to time. But come at me with a hypo and I'm out of there! Never under estimate the psychlogical effect of a knife on an aggresser, usually the sight of a large, wiked looking blade is enough to deter most peaple.
