I recently got sent to Okinawa for a year of active duty. My mini kit is geared for use in the USA. Aside from more water purification tablets what would you use in a subtropical area?

Due to lack of notice for this trip I didn't have a lot of time to do any research and make adjustments in my gear.

will - I can't think what extra you would need in your kit that you wouldn't already have. What do you have in your kit already??

Maybe consider tweezers if you have not already.

Lots of stuff can get under your skin.

I'm no expert here, but I spent a little time in the amazon and this is what I kept in my knife sheath pouch.Fishing kit, lighter, pur tabs,1 pack of teylenol,2 benadryl for insect or allergic resactions,1 iodine wipe,1 antibiotic wipe, tinder, and a small photon light, and 1 pack of suger and salt for rehydration.Oh and a sharpening stone. This is just a last ditch kit and not meant to replace your backpack, its just in case you get separated from your pack.

Will what do you have already? I spent 4 years in Oki and I might be able to help if I knew what you already have. Are you USAF,Corps, Army, or Navy? Different branches different rules. I taught US Military Customs and Immigration to all branches on the island and can tell you at the time I was there NO KNIVES were aloud in personal bags going through Kadena which is where the Freedom Bird lands and leaves. Email me if you have questions.
