Got an Otter Box today, in the mail. A bit smaller than I thought it would be.

What do you put in your Otter Box?

Normally, I store batteries in mine. I've got the same model, plus the bigger 2000 series. In the small one, I'll carry 2-3 CR123's, 4 AA's and 2 AAA's.

Alternately, when I go fishing for a day, I'll usually use it to store my keys and cash.

I only carry my larger Otter box when I travel, for my meds -- blood glucose meter, insulin, syringes, pills, etc. I wouldn't bother with one except for something valuable and relatively fragile like that.

I can see carrying one for fishing or hiking, to put watch & wallet & jewelry in it, in the bottom of a backpack.

Witz makes a nice series of smaller, lighter boxes, including eyeglass and cellphone styles, and several that work as waterproof neck wallets.

I put a picture of Mr. Otter himself in there with Prince William of Wales, hairbrushes, cosmetics, rope. Really have to stash it all in there though!:D

Cindy, I don't know if this is a disappointment to you, but this is the Prince of Wales:

Did you perhaps mean Prince William?

By the way, he's 6' 3" tall, so 7" taller than Mel!

(PS: You can write to him care of: Clarence House, St. James's Palace, London SW1A 1BA, United Kingdom)

Gary Im assuming that you were looking for a serious response when you posted how about putting together a comprehensive survival kit? There is a great website on the subject by Doug Ritter and it looks like you have enough space there to build a fine one.

I was looking at the Otter Box 1000 a few months ago to hold a small repair kit : four-in-one precision screwdriver, T handle screwdriver in standard sizes, a LM Mini Tool, duct tape, tube of glue, thread, buttons, needles, and a few other odds-and-ends. I ended up distributing these items in my knapsack, so didn't pursue the Otter Boxes further. Still seems like a good idea though. I also like the 8000, which is slightly larger and configured vertically.

I agree that it makes good sense for a survival kit too - if you're going to rely on something for survival, why put it in a flimsy container rather than something that is water and crush resistant? Although even the 1000 is larger and bulkier than an Altoids tin, so may be less likely to get carried everywhere. Also seems like a good place to store really critical electronics like a personal locator beacon.

You'd think a "Royal Photographer" (or his assistant) would have noticed that the collar of that suit jacket is not lying flat against his shirt collar. (I guess the stylist from Savile Row was out on a tea break.) If you're gonna do it, do it right. :)
