What do you sharpen your Fallkniven F1 with?

I am thinking of getting a F1 for hunting season this fall. Wondering if my lansky system will easily sharpen it. Any one use the lansky system for this knife? If so, regular or diamond hones for the VG-10? If not, what system (freehand isn't too productive for me yet)?

Thanks.

I'm working free hand on my DMT diamond whetstones. For quick touch up I use SPYDERCO Tri-Angle Sharpmaker.
Whichever sharpening system would you use - VG-10 Fallkniven F1 (and all their models) is made of is nice steel, decent edge holding and easy to sharpen. Please visit my review on F1 here: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001348.html

However please do not forget - good steel and good sharpening device is the smaller part of success, the main part is your sharpening skills.

Fällkniven has recently altered the basic geomtery of thier line including the F1 to convex. The Lansky and Sharpmaker, and most other systems are not designed to sharpen edges with convex profiles. If you do sharpen such blades on them as you would a v-ground knife, you will just put an additional bevel on the blade.

There have been multiple threads on sharpening convex bevels, including specific ones on the Fällkniven blades. You might want to do some searching for them.

Actually, the Lansky works just fine with convex blades, including the F1. As with any blade used with the Lansky, you'll need to grind a new bevel so buy the Deluxe kit which includes an extra coarse stone to do this job. Take care.

I would learn to use a set of flat bench stones. Once you do this, there is no need for gadgets, and you can sharpen any knife, with any edge configuration.

If you use a Lansky or any other system, you will no longer have a true convex edge, as you will put enough of a secondary bevel on the edge to completely change the cutting geometry and performance of the edge.

Once you learn to sharpen free hand, you will have the option of working the edge how you want, unhindered by mechanical "aid".

I sharpen on a set of flat spyderco stones, or a set of Norton waterstones.
