What do you shave with?

I use a Braun electric for one reason. When I get in a hurry, already have a shirt on, tie and all that rubbish and suddenly notice I need to shave I can quickly become "respectable".

However when I'm using a real razor I prefer the Mach 3. Expensive, but a really great shave. I've never found anything better although a double blade like Sensor will do a find job also.

I bought a Puma Gold straight razor a month ago, and I'm very pleased of it.

The old-fashioned way of shaving...

When using a knife I have found that a
two inch blade works alot better than
a three and half inch blade. 154cm
Talon will do the trick but a ats34 WH
Kestrel works much better!

I use a Norelco Advantage (the one with the lotion). I get a great close shave with it. When I don't use that, I use a Gilette Mach 3.

Sometimes a Sebbie will do the trick if I'm in a hurry.

Braun Model 5586 Rechargeable.

. It gives a pretty good shave, with little pain, and not much blood.

The best type of razor depends a lot on the individual. When I was a teenager I tried the double-cutting disposable razors and had trouble because they cut the hair too short. Some people with curly beards (very common with people with African heritage) are subject to having cut whiskers hang-up at the skin line and curl back into their faces. This causes ingrown hairs and nasty zits. So if you find you get ingrown whiskers use an electric razor.

An electric razor is quick and clean if you need to shave after you are dressed. A safety razor will generally give you a closer shave. A well sharpened knife with an AUS-8 or Sandvic 12C27 alloy blade will impress your friends, but be sure to use hot lather if you want to be comfortable.

Although I shave as infrequently as possible, the Mach 3 is hands down the best shave I've had.

My face is easily irritated, but I found a system that works great. I shave twice each morning, the first time in the shower with a Gillette Sensor and shaving cream, going only in the "down" direction on my face. (I tried the Mach 3 on one side of my face and the Sensor on the other, and for me they performed exactly the same.) The shower is great prep for a shave, the warm water makes the whiskers less stiff. And clean-up is easy!

After I've showered and my face is tight and dry, I use a Braun electric for 30 seconds to get the shave closer. I go in the "up" direction, stretching my skin with my other hand so it can get the whiskers. This seems like a lot of work, but it's actually very quick.

Gilette Sensor II. I tried the Mach 3, but the blades are very expensive and seemed to go dull very fast.

i use the mach 3 as well. blades are ridiculously priced though. saw a picture of a guy shaving with a double bladed axe in blade magazine... only those real mountain men can do stuff like that.

Nah, seriously, I keep a full beard and just trim it down every once in a while with an OLD Oster adjustable. Same one I use to cut the vast majority of my head hair off regularly.

I use a homemade antler handle (from a small whitetail I bagged) with a brass head (that came from Crabtree & Evelyn, Inc.) which accepts Gillette Trac II cartridges.

have had the best luck w/a mach111, and am not surised to learn they dull easily - i get about 5-7 shaves out of mine - other than the mach111, a trac-11 works ok, as good as the competition anyway - go thru stages, right now on a manual razor stage, but when in electric mode, use a braun which works ok, but not as close as the mach111 - have gotten a straight razor shave a few times at a barbershop in a hotel in new orleans, and they are hard to beat for comfort, closeness, etc - but expensive, $8 i think, not counting tip, $10 in all - pretty high for a shave imho

Mach 3 usually, although i havn't really had much problem with the blades dulling quickly. Knives are reserved for arm hair - when i can get a scary sharp edge, i may try facial hair.

I use gillette or shick disposable twin blade razors (I prefer the ones with the floating heads, but it doesn't matter that much). I get them typically around $0.50 each or less and I use them only once then throw them away.... If that seems expensive, consider that I've been able to avoid buying shaving cream now for a decade. I just wet my face, maybe put a little soap on it, and shave. Using a new razor every time insures that it is sharp and cuts without all the bead set-up that others seem to do.
