What do you think about it? Heat and Dominator.

Hi

I have a Heat as EDC since last January.

A few months ago, I bought a Maxx and I have to say I LOVE the Ti handles. I now carry both of them, but not at the same time.

I now have the impression that the Heat is so light. I think death's head got me addicted to Titanium.

In your opinion, do you think I should change my Heat for a Dominator? Does it worth it?

I have three Tilites with Ti handles, and four Heats....to me the heats are fine as is....I don't see the need for a Ti handle on a knife you are going to use.....a knife that will sit in the collection might be worth it, but as a user, just keep the heat....

I did just that, a while back. Loved the Heat, and stumbled across a deal on a used Dominator that was just too good to pass up, so I went for it!

A few things you should know:

  • Even in titanium, the Dominator is noticeably heavier. Not brick-like by any means, but definitely heavier.

  • The AO action of the Dominator isn't as vigorous as the Heat. Yeah, I know, it surprised me too, but I've heard the same from other Dom owners, too.

  • The fitting of the Dominator is a bit more finicky. Mine had a blade that rubbed one side of the handle; Camillus fixed it, more or less, but apparently Dominators with properly centered blades are pretty dang uncommon. Oddly enough, the one-piece Zytel handle of the Heat actually maintains alignment better than the open-frame Dominator.

  • You can buy a small pile of Heats for the cost of a Dominator. ;)

I did the opposite.... I bought a Dominator about six months ago and just added a Heat to my collection. I love the design and I wanted something similar that I could beat up.

IMO the Dominator is an example of perfection in executing a custom design into a production knife.

Prior to buying my Dominator I did a lot of research and read mixed reviews about QC, so I'm not disputing anyone's personal experiences. I guess I was lucky because my Dominator is perfect ( I have the tanto version).

It is a little slower than the Heat, but when you examine the Dominator beneath the surface it is a marvel. The materials used in it's construction along with the mechanism that propels the blade is amazing.

The Heat is a nice lower cost alternative. It's much more practical as a user and is a fantastic bargain.
I like the Heat but I can defiantly recommend the Dominator. They're starting to dry up so I'd try to get one while you can...

I have a Heat for EDC rotation; I simply love it. Fits perfect in the hand & the blade is beautiful but useful. I'd like to buy me a Dominator, I think it would be THE perfect knife! But no luck yet. I can't find one around here & seems to be hard to find one (any ideas?).

If they only would make an intermediate model between the HEAT & the DOMINATOR (same size, same blade, same ROBO system) but made of G-10 & some upgraded steel, it would be great, don't you think?

Recently bought one for a mate and myself, it's fast for a A.O and a great size.
At the same time i bought a Kershaw Scallion, the HEAT opens alot faster/snappier :).

Nice knifey.
