What do you think about K.I.S.S. knives from CRKT?

What do you think about K.I.S.S. knives from CRKT?

Do you carry any of the K.I.S.S. models, if so which one, Original, Sampson or Classic? How do you use them, keychain, money clip, ect.?

Do you like the clip point or tanto and why? I am wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are to each blade style.

I own several of the KISS models. My favorites are the Sampsons spear point and the KISS Classic clip point. All of mine are plain-edged.

The KISS Classic actually has the finest edge, the others are a bit more coarse-edged but all are sharp. If you don't like bead-blast, go with the Classic KISS.

I used to carry a KISS every day, but I've got so many knives, and at the moment they aren't in the current knife carry rotation.

My recommendation would be to carry one as a backup utility blade, not as a main knife. Because they are chisel-ground, they do not, IMO, cut as straight or cleanly as a normal double-ground blade. They work better for coarse or general cutting, like cutting twine, tape, boxes, and not fine work. Do not twist during use, as I have heard some people have accidentally unlocked the blade that way.

Some have said they have gotten cut when the blade inadvertently opened in their pocket. I never had that happen, but then, I carried mine as a money clip in my fanny pack.

I've never used (or even handled) a KISS so I have no opinion to provide.

However, I always dismiss this knife because of it's design. I think that it would be (maybe) a little too dangerous if you weren't being real careful while using.
It would be hard to believe that a exposed blade as on the KISS would not bite you every now & then.

Any opinions??

I like the KISS triple point... Nice blade, and makes a nice little money clip.

I recently served as best man for my younger brother. He gave me one of the little tantos. Very well-made. I like it as a money clip. Anyway, as I was examining it moments after receiving it, our Ph. D. older brother walked in and asked, "What's that?" I explained the gift and handed it to him to admire. He unfolded it, ran his thumb over the edge, and proceeded to bleed everywhere. Hello? Paging Professor Gollnick: It's a knife.

So, I can tell you that they are minimally sharp.

A KISS has been a daily carry for over a year. I originally had a tanto combo ones. Gave it away, as well as a STIFF KISS tanto straight edge. I replaced both with a SAMPSON KISS combo edge which I currently carry every day.

I prefer the Sampson KISS since it is a useable blades size, and thin enough that it fits in the small change pocket if I wear jeans, or tucks behind the waistband of other pants.

True, the lock-up is not as strong as other conventional liner-locks if you are using it for heavy use, or being reckless. However, it holds up fine for normal, average use.

I'm going to try replacing it with a BM 750 as a daily carry. If the 750 is too bulky I'll switch back to KISS.

They are a handy size (for carry) and a neat design, but they are, IMHO, a little to small for anything but cutting loose threads. The serrations are of little use, I think, and the blade is disproportionally thick. Also, I did not like the vertical play I perceived in the lockup... maybe the big "Sampson" type would be more to my liking...

If they only would make them for lefties... (The folding ones that is, of course.) *sigh* As such, they are way too "lefty-hostile" for me. A real shame, too. I really like the looks (and the price!

) of that knife. Neat little gadget. Hmm... I'd probably buy the tanto edged, straight blade of course.

I've used mine as a money clip & on a key ring.(KISS plain edge tanto) It is simply a small task blade...nothing more than that at all..letter opener, box opener...that sort of thing. For the money, a great buy I think.

Mine is a standard KISS with tanto and half serrations - had it about two years and have no self inflicted wounds as of yet - generally it is carried clipped in hip pocket or as a money clip. I agree with the criticism concerning blade thicknes and difficulty with fine cutting - but for rough work it's fine.. but not - repeat NOT for a southpaw! IMHO it's a great knife for the price.. but many others are too!

Do you guys recommend the smaller Original, Classic or the larger Sampson K.I.S.S to keep on a keychain?

I would like to use it as a money clip but I don't think it would work since I also keep credit cards and my license inside the fold of my bills and it seems like the clip would bend. I guess what I am saying is it doesn't look like you can fit much in the money clip. Even in the pictures they only show one bill in the clip

Hmmm, money clip or keychain?

I do kind of like the tanto blade but then I would have to choose between the Original or the Sampson since the Classic doesn't come in a tanto.

geez, wish I could handle them...

Thanks for all your comments,

I have two of the folders, the original tanto, and a newer small PECK. I carry the PECK every day as a money clip in my front pocket. The clip will accommodate more bills than you might think.

The blade does open in my pocket on occasion. The point on the PECK is quite sharp, and I poke myself with the point rather than cutting myself on the edge. I guess I poke myself every three of four weeks and have managed to draw blood two or three times.

Not enough of a problem to make me discontinue use, but enough to keep me cautious. It is a potential liability.

Hi MNH,

I forgot all about the PECK. But how does it open in your pocket on it's own? I don't think I like that which means the KISS wouldn' work as a money clip or a keychain knife for me

I really don't care for these little knives. I found one once that someone had dropped, and I wouldn't even carry it, due to the incredibly bad and wobbly lock-up, the lousy ergonomics of the handle, and my worry about the knife accidentally opening in my pocket (I cut myself often enough with knives I open on purpose).

Starchaser,

The PECK is a neat little knife, and is my favorite of the folding KISS knives, It has a real sharp point!

I'm not really sure how it gets open, I have never crawled in there to watch.
smile.gif
It doesen't open much, just a 1/4" or so, but that is just enough to point the tip up at the tip of finger.

I assume it opens when the blade stud rubs against the inside of my pocket, and/or other stuff in there with it.

I do like this knife and carry it in spite of the fact that I know it will bite me once in a while.

The tanto style blade KISS is my favorite. Maybe it won't open in my pocket like the PECK does to you. I don't like to get bit

I have the KISS Classic which I use for everyday carry and sometimes use the moneyclip. I find myself opening and closing it a lot. It was during one of these times I got bit,

. I have never had it open in my pocket though. So I will watch out for that.

I think it is a good knife for general every day uses in a office environment I work in.

If you are not planning any hard use or to use as a backup knife then I would recommend it.

Happy Halloween!!
