What do you think about MOD Trident?

I really didn't care for mine. The lanyard "slot" is so small, that 3mm cord won't fit thru. The paint came off of the thumb studs and the boron came off part of the blade (after 1000 cuts thru cardboard.) I'd rather have them teflon coat the blade. It is a tough knife though. I also have a Hornet and a Tempest. The only one I really like is the Tempest just from the style alone. I think MOD's knives are a little too pricey, but like I said, they're tough knives.

I'm not too crazy about the pocket clip location, it makes the knife stick out of your pocket. its good if you need to grab it quick, but its not too comfortable.........

Alarion,

I think its one fine blade. If you have lost the finish on one of the MOD's that you own -- contact Jim Ray at MOD. I'm sure he will make it right.

I second that - Jim offered to help me hand pick a trident when I mentioned that I was concerned about lock failure, after reading some old threads. He also told me that the lock has been re-designed and all pass the spine whack test. Very nice man from our correspondence - pity I couldn't follow through as I didn't have sufficient funds then.

mine is so well built it is my beater knife. solid lock up, great grip, nice edge retention, solid lock up....oh I said that...I totally trust mine, and i don't say that often.

Tip down.
I much prefer tip down carry as it's far safer, and the supposed speed of extraction of tip-up isn't worth the risck of reaching in your pocket only to find a razor-sharp blade waiting for your fingers. It happened to me, and was very lucky as I just got mildly pricked by the knife's point, but not cut.
I currently carry a Spyderco Wegner, which is tip up. I found it's pretty safe to carry with slanted pockets (but not in vertical pockets like jeans) where it can reside at the bottom of the pocket. Being accustomed to tip down carry I didn't find it any quicker to get.
With vertical pockets, or inside the waistband, I feel tip down carry is a must.

I love my trident, most people I show my knives to pick it as my best knife, even over my microtech ums! I love it, very smooth, great blade, very durable, very comfortable knife...excellent....

Alarion:

Check the website at www.folders-r-us.org

We tested that knife and a few others as well over the last year.

I like the Mod products but am not enamored with all the models.

My favorite is the trident though thats a personal thing.
