Well, for those that read about it in the "Whatever" thread, i knew i had reason to be concerned. the epoxy set up too soon. and, it shows in the final result. there are gaps in the paper.

i am both disappointed and encouraged. this was my first shot using the construction paper. it obviously didn't turn out great, but i think it has potential. i really like the look of it. i just need it to stay together. ;)

in general, i think i was right that this config - the brown construction paper and steel pins - would look good together. i just need to do a better job with making the scales.

thoughts?

the color and grain are great, but you can see the voids. the "light spot" you see in the scale was a major void where it was epoxy only. too bad.

I'm with you in that the paper has potential, but it's too bad you had problems with the epoxy. I like the steel pins with the brown, your on the right track.

If I did it, the voids and inconsistencies would bother me. But I think it looks damn good.

I've never seen anyone make mycarta (yourcarta) out of construction paper.

Have you figured out why it set up so quickly?

The voids would definitely cause me to do it again. I like the way the brown paper micarta is looking though, good idea.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.:)

I like the look.Get the resin worked out & that do have potential.

I think it came out great for your first try at it. I like the way it looks like wood grain. Keep at it!

thanks guys. it's a pretty thin handle, so i think i am just going to sand it all away and start over.
