As for the usefullness I really can't find any but its something I've been wanting to try and there will be more to come. As far as size goes the head is 5 1/4" and the haft is 11 3/4". To scale I'd say its half size but as weight goes its a 1/4 of a normal size one. The haft was made out of a piece of oak and the head at one time was a small demolition pry bar. After I finished the haft I remembered I had some curley maple I could have used so I'll try to remember I have it for the next one. The amount of time spent on making the haft was more than what I had in forging and finishing the head.

I like it a lot Ray, a glove box size hawk might come in handy:) That oak looks real nice; what type of finish did you use on it?
Regards,
Greg

Greg, I used black and brown leather dye and sanded it with 1000 grit before I put the two coats of Watco Teak finish on it. It would fit in a glove box. I just don't find it very threatning because of the size.

I'll tell you what Ray, I could make a whole career out of admiring your stuff. If I was rich, I'd be your patron and get to keep everything you made...but you'll have to settle for my undying admiration, which comes free and with no fiscal benefit. :D

As for the current mini hawk - I just flat love it. Usefulness and aggression aside, it's just plain ole cool. There's a special place in my psyche for miniature stuff, maybe because I'm so large. Or maybe because I can appeciate how much more trying it is to make something small that looks full scale. And this one really does have all the scale down, so perfectly that without something to give it dimension you cannot tell that it's not the full sized, dangerous implement of persuasion it looks like. This is just neat and I dig it, Daddy-o. Hat's off to you!

Yep. I think it would be a great addition for the primative muzzloader hunter.

Cooooooool.
I did a mini wraparound with bamboo as the haft. Worked fine on little stuff but I like your Idea better. Maybe after I get a few reg size I try a mini.

Awsome, I am not a big fan of any type of mini's, except to admire the skill, but I realy like that hawk. Course' I realy like all your stuff, but that's besides the point! Outstanding work, and it looks real cool too.

Looks great Ray
As far as usefullness, I agree with everyone else, it'd be handy hunting. I could also see woodcarvers using something like it on large projects. They made carving axes and adze about the same size.

Looks like a cool hunting hawk with a little attitude adjuster on the other side. nice and light. I agree that this would work good in the mountain man type/rendevous. how about a damascus one. ;)

I think it would make a great back scratcher or fly swater. Maybe I'm just to used to the larger size ones but I do appreciate all the comments. If I can find a damascus wrecking bar at the second hand tool store I'll be sure to make a mini out of it....... :D I've got to admit I sure have been enjoying making the hawks for the last few months and so far I haven't worn out my arm in the process. Expect to see more......

Bruce, I'll most likly have a couple at the Oregon Show. I'm going to be doing the forging demo at the show on Sunday starting at 11am. I'm going to be doing tomahawk. Bring your own chair....... :D

Remove a couple more inches from the handle and you will have come up witha ktchen drawer version of your can opener, Raymond! :D

Ivan, I'm sure my wife could fit it into a kitchen drawer with no problem although I'm thinking it would be tuffer to get out. Is it just my wife that keeps so much stuff in kitchen drawers that you can't find anything? There's a couple drawers in the kitchen she call junk drawers. Is that suppossed to mean there's just junk in them or is it there so full of junk you can't open them?
