I want to buy a survival knife and I am doubting between these brands so what do you think?

Great knives for sure, but I think you'd be better served by a Survive! Knife. I've owned those brands before and while they are fine knives, I don't think they are as good as any in the Survive! line. Check them out at www.surviveknives.com. You won't regret it.

P.S. This is their makers forum :D

Sog are decent.

Fallkniven are better than sog.

Mora are backup knives that have nowhere near the strength or quality of either of the above brands, but are excellent knives and I have several because they're so cheap.

Survive knives are better IMO than all of them.

Just my opinions, your mileage may vary.

Your doubt is well placed. However, this thread might not be, this is for the Survive! knives brand. Wasn't sure if you were asking us S!K owners what our thoughts were compared to those brands?

If so as said above, checkout Survive! Knives. Better design than a stock military purposed knife (SOG, Falkniven), especially for the cost and the warranty that comes with them. There's a lot of Mora fans in here, but I'm not one of them. I also like to buy from smaller businesses in the US whenever I can.

+1 for Survive Knives, and I would put Esee into this conversation as well, above the 3 the OP mentioned.

As I have said many time here, the Fallkniven F1 is my dream knife. However, I want it for the cool factor, its a much thicker and heavier knife than I need.

I love the Moras and own several. The Bushcraft Black is a strong knife. The No1 and Companion are much thinner and lighter making them excellent slicers and neck knives.

I have little experience with SOG's. I know they do make some good knives, but all the ones I see are cheap junk.

If you are just starting out grab a $15 Mora and head out. In all honesty I would be more concerned about spending the money on raingear, socks, and boots.

Brand is not as relevant as you might think. I tend to instead look for certain characteristics for a particular application. What a "survival knife" consist of is highly debated and discussed, but I prefer a quality carbon steel blade (5-7 inches long, and at least 1/8" thick, preferable thicker) with a 90 degree spine (for use with a ferro rod), full visible tang, and a rounded (i.e. comfortable in extended use) handle. If a knife has all of those features, it will work well for me as a one-tool option in a "survival" situation. YMMV...

Survive! Knives are awesome and one of the best in my opinion but you cant go wrong with beckers or esee knives they're great too.

Fallkniven and mora are good knives. Mora for value using and Fallkniven (while overpriced IMHO) makes a quality blade (but I also think there are superior, less expensive but usually less "sexy" domestic products).

For beater knives, if you want to spend the kind of cash Fallkniven demands, go get a scrapyard of your choosing. I like the steel better and their warranty is no questions asked, break it, they fix/replace it. The only down-side is that if you order from the factory (as opposed to used), you will have to wait longer than you would otherwise.

ESEE and Becker are other lines of knives that I highly recommend to anyone looking for the "woods knife" variety.

Now, I like fallkniven knives. They are super schmexy, but if you want a user vs. a looker.....there's harder working knives for less coin out there.

New SOG products are junk IMHO. They slid downhill just like Gerber.

The thing with "survival" knives is that it involves a lot of what ifs and fantasy. Buy something you will use and if you are worried about "survival" realize that technique can be used to make different designs work, one you use has already proven itself useful.
I am a fallkniven fan and would recommend them any day, keep in mind that I'm also biased.
Moras are good budget knives.
SOG is indeed like gerber. They are geared towards making money and don't care much about anything else.

Fallkniver - wonderful, but overpriced.

Mora - high-value, but not full-tang.

SOG - borderline-mall-ninja, made in China type pieces.

Get something from Ontario or KA-BAR, save some cash (over Fallkniven, and possibly even SOG), and have something just as useful and dependable.

If u can find a SOG that's made.in seki city ,jump on it. They are solid knives but hard to find since they are valued by their owners.
I can't recommend fallkniven enough, however I too am biased and own n use many.
Moras.are good cheap knives, keep a few all over

+1 for the fallkniven f1 as well. it's likely the knife i have recommended more than any other piece of cutlery in the world. I've carried one for more than 6 years on my gear at work and it's always been enough to get the job done without getting in the way. I think it's biased when people say other brands are "better" and you should buy them. I have tried them all and they all have their good points, but i couldn't recommend any of them over the F1 unless it was specifically for a reason the user needed, ie: cutting trees down or processing firewood = Becker. Great knife but a bit big in some circumstances. better slicer? i'd go with the ESEE, but i don't like their square "ish" handles. I find the fallkniven more comfortable in extended use. The only sog i even like these days is the ranger model. nice little user, and the GSO looks like a great performer as well and so do the scrapyard and co knives, but long story short, from the ones you listed i'd go fally every day and never look back.

I love these "which should I get, A, B or C" questions and the thread becomes "get D, buy E, Z is best". LOL
I believe you can not choose a "survival" knife wthout first defining it's uses and applicatons for yourself, and you can't choose one based soleley on brand name. You also didn't touch on budgetary constraints if any. Of the three brands you mentioned Fallkniven is likely the best, they are made by Hattori in Japan, the best quality F&F, but will cost you an arm and a leg. The miltary series F1, S1, A1 etc are the most ideal. You can save money by going with SOG. Only their cheapest products are made in China. Most of the popular fixed blades are made in Taiwan since 2006 and they are rugged and will meet your needs. The Seal series; Seal Pup, Pup Eiite, or the larger Seal Team and Seal eam Elite are the most "rugged" of the fixed blades. And they won't hurt your wallet as much as the Fallknivens. I have no experience sono comment regarding Moras. While there are many other "brands" that can be suggested as everyonealready has,
if the Fallknivens interest you but find the prices too high, the Cold Steel San Mai series are a good alternative.

I have owned a SOG seal pup and a couple Moras, the moras are still fully intact while the SOG's tip broke on one of its first excursions. I'd trust Mora over SOG when it comes to survival, I've thrown all you could ask at my Mora Allround and it's performed flawlessly, feels so much stronger than the SOG, and has a quality that's not easily seen upon first examination, only after you use it do you realize the quality that it has.

I have no experience with Fallkniven, own two Moras, and have quite a few SOGs. When SOG makes an effort to design a useful knife made from good (if not great) materials, the results are usually pretty decent. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case less and less often. I own a Seal Pup, Field Pup, Team Leader Survivor (discontinued TL-02 with saw) and Tsunami, as well as numerous folders. Each has its its strengths, but none is what I consider a "jack of all trades" that I would carry as my only knife. The NW Ranger might very well fill that role, but I have yet to pull the trigger on one. I have no particular objection to AUS8 steel, but I guess I'd prefer something a little tougher for the sort of tasks I'd use the NW Ranger for.

I feel the same about Cold Steel as I do about SOG, as both brands have some interesting and useful designs but also a lot of silly stuff and run-of-the-mill steel. Cold Steel seems to be upgrading to better steel for 2015, though.

I trust that you sent that Seal Pup back to SOG for replacement. They warranty their knives for life.
