So what do you think , are they worth it? Id love to hear all pros and cons.

too hard to get a old of. Cool looking knife, but not my cup of tea. I dont think they are worth the secondary market prices.

Had one in for sharpening not long ago, very nice knife and one of the best feeling framelock I have encountered. Blade is a little thick to be considered a slicer but it will still get the job done. In hand feel is very nice, I would put it on my top 10 list. The knife is great but IMO a little overpriced, I would want better blade steel and better slicing abilty if I was going to be spending that kind of money.

I'm not willing to pay that high a price for what they are going for in the secondary market. The knife looks fantastic and have heard many great things about it but like others said, the blade is pretty thick so it probably isn't the best slicer out there. I think you would have a tough time breaking one though.

Me personally, I got a new 3rd Gen XM-18 a year back for 385 USD, then $35 for shipping & insurance to Australia.:D

Quite comfy in the hand, even though it's designed to be a tank. Cuts well, I wouldn't use it for any precise, delicate stuff, but for everything else it works just fine. It's gone through a rather large spectrum of stuff, from cutting up a binful of cardboard to trimming fat off some pork before it was cooked. It worked well for both of those tasks, and everything else in between.

That said, I wouldn't have gotten one at the secondary market rates. Glad I got it when I did.

Great folder. Built to be abused. Super smooth knife. Overpriced? Yes, but so is strider, sebenza, and most other folders over $300.. or $200.. or $150.. take a pick of your cut off point. To me anything over $150 is overpriced, but this never stopped me from buying a knife.
If you need a tough knife or just really want one, then XM-18 will make you happy even at the price of secondary market. This is a super smooth tank. If you're not really into tough, thick folders, and prefer slicers, then I would suggest to look at something else.

blade is thick. but it's designed to be a tank. if you like Striders, you'll like XM-18.

get one whilst it's still Duratech 20CV - it's a great steel. I think Rick will change it to CTS-40CP, which I think isn't going to be as great as 20CV, since it's sorta like a supercharged 440C (maybe equivalent to ATS34/154CM), compared to 20CV with its almost 2%C and large amounts of Vanadium (maybe better than S30V).

they look sweet and would be a great deal if you could get one for the list of $395 instead of $550 if your lucky on the secondary market, that said i want one when a good chance come up for it!

I think if you have a collection of that sort of thing (Sebenza, SnX, TnT, 030X, etc) the XM-18 is probably a must-have. I'm fine with $395 as retail for the shopped-out version, just wish he could come a little closer to meeting the current demand.

The XM would not be my first choice if I could have only one Ti framelock. And if I just wanted a really burly folder, would probably go the ZT route. So guess my opinion is that the XM is highly desirable, but is a bit of a collector's knife. It has a unique set of attributes (as do they all) which just isn't as calibrated with my desires as some of the others.

Yes, I think the XM is "worth it".

Have owned a few and they were all very well made. Still have one and enjoy carrying it alternating days with a Spyderco S90V Manix 2. Carry the XM when I feel like I need a tank and the Manix when slicing/cutting performance is the order of the day. I paid about $450 for a brand new XM-18 with a hinderer pivot tool. Since the SMF is $475 and the CRK framelocks are about $400 I have no "value" issues at the price.

No knife is best in every category, but of the "tank" like folders which compromise on cutting performance the XM is my favorite. If you like high ground slicers then obviously you'll need to look elsewhere...

I've never owned or handled one (I seem to always miss meeting up with Kaizen1 who has a beauty), but it's one of my grail knives... :) I think it's worth it if the design features, materials, and aesthetics attract you.

For me its 'the perfect kife'. great form function and ergonomics. Its super smooth built heavy enough to take any abuse thrown at it, but light enough not to weigh you down.

For me it was worth the price at any price.

The blade is a bit thick but takes a hellacious edge and sharpens easily. it rides well in the pocket and its design lets it hide in the back of the ocket untill its needed.

IMO is the best built semi custom to date; and I own Strider, EKI, CRK, Hinderer, ER, Buck, BM, and out of those its deffinately the best hands down.

I just got one a few weeks ago and at first glance I said to myself "this is it?" But after having carried it for two weeks and lubing the pivot I am now very impressed. I like how it feels in the hand and it has become very smooth in a short time.

Looks like a solid folder, but the price is a joke, same for Strider, Sebenza, Microtech, ect. I don't need a $500 folding knife nor does anyone else really, sorry thats just common knowledge. There are plenty of other folders out there that will handle any task you ask of it at a much, much lower price. Maybe the Hinderer is built for abuse, but at that price who in the hell is willing to abuse it... Rich man's knife... NO THANKS, but to each their own, if you dig it and want to blow that kind of cash on a knife, then by all means go for it... Or if your a serious collector then you might go for stuff like that, but for EDC, no way..

That's your opinion, but there are A LOT of people who don't see it the same way you do. Have you ever used a Reeve, Hinderer or Strider? If not, I would suggest trying to at least play with one day. You might be pleasantly surprised! :)

Yes sir, I have owned two Striders and a Microtech, they are very nice knives indeed, but the makers are far to proud of them. Why pay for a knife what you could get a Glock pistol for? Just doesn't work..

Why waste your money on a cheap plastic gun when you could get a nicely made knife? something you can actually use in everyday life.
