Hello all, I've been eying the Paramilitary for some time, I'm thinking of trying one out for EDC. How does it carry? Also I'm not familiar with the compression lock, is it easy to deploy? Can it be manipulated with one hand? I'm also buying one for my friend, will the compression lock be difficult to someone who is not big into knives? Thanks!

the para is very very well liked...it is one of my personal all time favorite folders....i have a d2 one and i carry it just about every day...the comp lock is very cool and is easy to open and close with one hand...i would think your friend would love it...its a fantastic blade, by a fantastic company...

Of all my many many knives, the para is one of the easiest for me to deploy, the lock works great, and the ergonomics are outstanding. Did I mention that I like the design?

the Para carries well, is really smooth to open and "spyder-drops" at lightning speed

It's was my first high quality folder and still my favorite, super easy to flip open and closed with the compression lock with just two fingers.

I got a Para D2 about a month ago and has become my favorite knife. It's light weight and carry's really good for the size. I wish I could say the same about the Ti Milli I just received yesterday. NIB and has dinged end from being dropped before I received it and nowhere near as smooth opening. I am not impressed with it like I am with the Para. I guess my standards were higher and I expected better function, fit and finish from the Ti Milli and didn't get it. I think it's going back, not happy after waiting a month to get it.

Can it be manipulated with one hand?

Yeah, from your regular grip you can pinch the lock between your index finger and thumb, and and let gravity swing the blade down and home. No prob. Great knife. I prefer the serrated flavor, which I think is - or recently was - discontinued. See also the threads on the Paramilitary 2, which may be coming this year. Same basic knife, but slightly larger with some refinements like additional jimping and moving the clip closer to the end of the knife for deeper pocket carry.

There is no perfect knife, but few knives come as close to perfection as the Para-Military.

D2 is my daily carry almost without exception since I got it. Its relatively office friendly but big enough to get the job done. I did a ton of yard work/home improve this past weekend -- used it to open packaging, trim small limbs, strip wire, prune back a rosemary bush etc etc - few swipes on the sharpmaker and it was ready to go again. I have large hands so I do find my grip a bit pinched on hence I am really excited for the new model.

I solved the problem, with a dremel, my D2 Para looks like the new Para II
other than a wee bit shorter blade. I'm really impressed,it looks great and feels like a knew knife. :p

Can I be your friend so you can buy me a paramilitary?

The compression lock is the best part of the Paras IMO. It is my favorite pocket knife and is easily manipulated one-handed. I have four of them and I want atleast four more Para 2s.

I have a couple and the D2 Para is a really nice knife that spends quite a bit of time in EDC rotation. It's a nice size and weight thing with me.

I'm looking forward to the Para 2, as it seems to be a great follow up to a knife i consider to be one of the best.

The Paramilitary is a fine knife, and a must have for the Spyderco fan. However, I carry the Military, just prefer the larger blade.

I have about 20 Spyderco knives and I really tried hard to like this one but never warmed up to it. As nice as the compression lock is, it is so radically different from my other folders that I could never get used to using it without a lot of thought. Also, the only comfortable grip I could achieve was forcing me to use the choil every time. I like a choil, but like the option of choking up on it or not using it at all, like on the Military. Lastly, I kept hitting the tang protruding beyond the scales every time I reached for the knife in my pocket
