What do you think of this idea?

I just got a 42 in the mail, used, but in much better condition than i expected. it basically looks new. I was thinking about having some custom work done: what i had in mind was sharpening the false edge, then giving the blade a mirror polish. About what do you think this kind of work would cost, and do you have any other neat suggestions about something i could do to it? thanks for any input!

Just a thought (and I don't know the answer) but is it possible to countersink the smaller holes?? How about re-countersinking the larger holes so they look like the holes in the 45's handles

Mirror-polished blades are wonderful to look at, but they're not the most practical finish. They're easily damaged. So, if you're thinking of this knife as a user, you might want to rethink that part of the plan.

What does countersinking mean anyway?

Masse, Balisongman - good ideas.

Masse, you might want to talk to Sniperboy about your idea; I think she had something very similar done with one of her BM42s not too long ago. The pricing would vary depending on which custom maker you choose to do this job for you, of course. And like Chuck said, if you're planning to use this bali, you're probably not going to want to put a HP or mirror finish on it.

Cameron, I also like the look of the handles on the 45 over the 42, but I'm not sure about your idea on countersinking the smaller holes. The smaller holes are already close enough to the large ones, so if you countersink them, they might run into the countersink part of the larger holes. And even if they wouldn't touch, I'm not sure this would make it look better.

The One, countersinking is when you drill a hole, then countersink it by drilling over it with a countersink bit (doesn't have to be done by drilling). It's the look of the larger hole getting smaller. I can't really explain this very well, but I'm sure someone will post a pic later.

Thanks for the input guys...Cameron, I actually like the idea of countersinking the small holes a lot, but KentDog is probobly right that there isnt enough room between them and the big holes to work with. If i do get this kind of work done i certainly dont plan on using it. i have a couple users, and a couple 42's already, and actually did order this one with the intention of using it, but have also have always wanted to have some custom work done to one of my knives, and HP blades is one of my favorite features. How reaslistic would it be to insert some really nice wood into the large holes? Never seen or heard of it being done, but just an idea. Yeah, i will talk to sniperboy, i remember his recent post with a 42 with a sharpened false edge. thanks again for the input...
