i dont know much about the company, but from ehat i have heard (not what i know as a fact),lagiole (sp?) is a good company with decent prices.
anyone wanna sttraigten me out?

I don't know squat, but believe I too have heard the company is thought to be good.

Would be very interested to hear what you think if you buy one. I believe the knife is also "type" or style of knife in France. Guess it's cause am so caught up in "tacticals", but I find it interesting that Spain has the similar Navaja, and Italy a similar knife I can't remember the name of. I've read that Spain has a long history of bladesmanship, and has schools of knife fighting/using that are hundreds of years old. May misremember, but somewhere got impression that Navaja is considered a combat weapon, in addition to it's utilitarian uses. Maybe the laguoile (I can't spell it either) Hope you can educate us.

As usual, think I better run a search and see what's available.

Its a French knife. The company is one of the better known cutlery companies in France. They are kind of uncommon in the US so we don't hear very much on it. Steel is 440C.

BTW, according to the wife, Martha Stewart recommends these knives as excellent gifts for bridal party ushers.

Check out these guys for a little more choice and information than you’ll find at World Knives:

Laguiole Elite
Cutlery To Go

Curlery To Go seems to have a lot of beautiful French and Spanish models you don't see elsewhere.

umm, i read a book on knives of hte world *titled knives of hte world hehe*

showed a nice selection of laguiole knives since it was a book made by a french author

they look damn good, stylish and elegent, but i dont think they have a lock, which may concern you

and also, laguiole is a town, basically any knife maker from there can put the name laguiole on their knives, no matter how crap it is......umm......the ones i liked were by phillip stark, he made some aluminium handled ones, and the horn handled ones look good too, not like the normal horn i seen though.

elois is another brand *italian i think* which makes similar looking knives.....i can see them being expensive though.....one had a hole where you could put a precious stone into it, just for presentations sake.

but they are nice knives.....i dont know anything about purchasing them off the net thoguh,

Daniel

Laguiole is the name of the knife producing area of France. There are many companies producing that style of knives over there.

I enjoy my Forge de Laguiole knife very much. This knife is from a different company(Canadian it seems) and looks very well made. The price is right for these classic french knives. Buy one and enjoy.

Thanks Esav for the great links.

Keith.
