and here is another look with out the flash(looks very dark but there is still a 60 watt light on). the 3 dots fill the unused clip holes and the 2 dot formation is on the tips of the para cord

wow DumboRAT you get around!! i recognize your handel from
some airsoft related message boards. i hope you are the same person if not then im just a ding bat. by the way is the blade suposed to have any verticle play when in the locked position? the lock and the blade tang never realy touch. the lock just floats mid way under the blade tang. is this normal?

thanks....justin

justice,

LOL, it's me. :)

As for the lock -- that worries me a bit....the only Buck-Strider that I have is the 882 (Tarani SB4.T), and although its liner is already crossed over to the right of midline (after just a month of EDC) it presents no blade-play (and still has yet to fail).

I would see what Josh says about warranty servicing based on the modification of your scales.....

Best of luck!

well i dont expect to get a refund/replacement(nor do i want one i still like it a lot) after the mangled job i did to the handels. i just wanted to know if it was normal. i picked it up at the ny custom show(i know i go to a custom show and buy a production folder i know how bad that looks) i baught it off the strider table and i guess it had been opened and closed by who ever passed by and picked it up. but even with the small amount of blade play it has i dont think it will fail. i have alredy givin it a bunch of spine whack tests with varios striking objects as well as stabing holes in some coins. and i also chopped an old hockey stick in half stabbed through some old duster gas cans. and it has not failed yet. just to see what would happen i wrapped a small piece of duct tape around the stop pin and the verticle blade play is gone now. so i think this is a wear and tear based problem. but i think the model i have is the newest vertion of the 880 with the double thumb studs, smother grip patern, reversible clip, half serations, huge thick phospher bronze washers one of which is almost shaped like a lower case letter B, and flame treated locking bar. like i said i just wanted to know if it was normal for this newer vertion. if so i might look for an older vertion of the strider buck folders.

i guess i should have known it was you. not many other DumboRAT's running around.by the way how does that Tarani SB4.T stand up to some other common production liner locks?

For me, the SB4.T is doing just fine.

I'm your average pencil-necked, fat-assed, paper-pusher office type, so it doesn't see any real rough use.

From the design and build criteria previously listed by Josh, it'll easily handle all that I have to dish out at it, plus more.

:)

My only other truly worrisome production liner-locker is a Spyderco Howard Viele that I EDC's for over two years -- prior to my rather recent interest in customs or semi-customs. On this one, which also still easily passes spine-whacks, although the lock still engages "perfectly" -to- slightly left-of-center, the liner can be seen to visibly flex/bend with negative load.

So both my SB4.T and my Viele are a bit "concerning" to me right now, but I still trust them plenty for daily light-use as I typically expose them to.

And hey, you've got nothing to be ashamed of with your Buck-Strider; those are often refered to, even by die-hard Strider fans, as "1/2 a Strider, for 1/3 the cost."

Justin,
Its hard to say about the blade play after all the handle work thats been done but you still might want to send it in to Buck. I bet we can still remedy that for you. Send me an email if you are interested and I will give you all the details.
Take care,

well i sent it in to joe and even with all that crap i did to the handels. buck fixed the blade play free of charge it was quik and painless. it looks like thay just replaced the locking liner.and as i told joe in an email buck has a new costomer in me mainly becaus of there outstanding customer service.
on another note has anybody had the liners on a 880 anodized?
