You head into the woods today and you meet a young guy/girl whatever, you get chatting and realise that he/she has little to no experience of what they are getting themselves in for (they are planning on spending 2 - 3 nights in the wilderness, catching cooking their own food etc) What 3 advice tips, in order of importance do you give them? What in your own head, do you think are the 3 most important thiongs a person should know.

1. How to make a fire
2. Where to find water.
3. How to make a shelter

For three days that is really all you need. Longer than that is how to make a deadfall and how to catch fish (hint crickets make the best bait.)

1) How to make fire.
2) Where to find water
3) they are not prepared, and should read up on it first.

The first 2 are more in case they are really stubborn, and that means they will probably be at least slightly comfortable for a night.

how many days can they go without eating...... can you make a fire and can you treat or find water. do they have the right clothing(rain gear). how much unnecessary crap is in their pack (books, makeup, perfume, magazines, three pairs of shoes,)

1. water
2. fire
3. navagation

Make sure they know how to use a map or GPS without them feel like an idiot. tell them the land marks, thing that can get them home, if they are out and that bad with planning, I can bet they dont know their way around.

You could just ask them if the know certain parts of the area, again, dont make them feel dumb, but try and get an estimate of they mind set, take note of who they are, what they are wearing in case searchers need to come find them, if they tell you where they are going, you can also let searchers know.

Keep an ear on the radio too, any and everything can help.

With all due respect and not trying to start a flame war I'd try to convince them to go home.. Crash courses in survival and bushcraft are not and never will be something I'd feel good about, or agree upon.. To me, that's just asking for trouble..

If I couldn't convince them, then I'd atleast give them a bunch of easy tools for getting a fire started, and maybe some emergency blankets, and stay with them a while to help them get situated.. Hopefully they'd have something to boil water in and to cook.. If not, guess they'll be getting a pot from me as well..

Again, this is just my 2 cents..

Estimate length of life time given to that person by seeing the preparation, terrain, weather and other things.
Then tell him/her how to escape from that region and reach safe place.

That is, navigation so to speak.
If I was to return home and had excess food, I'll also let him/her take it.

I think 3 tips will be too much for unprepared person.

Heck, I'd go with them, especially if it was a young girl:p

But seriously, if I was already heading out, I might tag along with them and maybe show them some stuff or else try to convince them to go on a day hike and try something longer later.

Young girls? Where? Do they need some guidance? Anyone have a phone number?

Well, my first inclination is, as Pedro says, "Is she hot?" :D

But getting away from all that without looking like too much of a Neanderthal, the biggest piece of advice would be to not go alone when they are going out for the first time. They should be going with someone who knows something about what they are doing, so they don't die. I'd probably say it just like that, too.

That is all.
